The Republican nominee, Donald Trump, tweeted a claim that Clinton was associated with a KKK member as her mentor. The tweet has added to an already controversial week of racially charged accusations between the two candidates. Lynette Hardaway and Rochelle Richardson, two african american supporters of Trump, have confirmed that the late Senator Robert Byrd was a former KKK member and mentor of Clinton. The accusation could potentially reveal a past relationship between Clinton and Byrd had that is not wanted in the political campaign. In addition to the accusation, Trump claims that Clinton views people of color only as votes.
Discussion Questions:
1. Will this accusation significantly hurt Clinton's political campaign?
2. If this accusation is true, will Clinton's association with a former KKK member influence her political opinions?
3. Considering that many government officials have been proven to also be KKK members in the past, would you trust Clinton as a possible presidential candidate after this accusation?
1.) Out of honesty I don't think this will effect the overall idea. Trump's accusations are a joke.
ReplyDelete2.) If this is true I strongly believe that it will effect her political options and others political options.
3.)Our nation is going to be screwed anyways. I don't think much will change.

Despite a few "oohs" and "aahs" from Trump's Republican audience, essential things of the election will be left unchanged. When Trump becomes president, he will have millions of enemies. Is he going to invite two African Americans again to accuse them all of being a part of the KKK? That's just ludicrous.

ReplyDeleteI think if in today's day in age, believing Trumps accusations is a hard thing to do in itself. I think everyone should be questioning everything Trump says, regardless if it is true or not. The way he portrays his image has been looked down upon on many people which has damaged their trust.
ReplyDeleteThis accusation should not hurt Clinton´s campaign because he is known for his outrageous claims. It may have possibly influenced her political opinions, but I don´t believe it has. It is a little unsettling knowing that her mentor was a former member of the KKK, but the past is the past, and I would definitely trust Clinton more than Trump
ReplyDeleteSo far, this is only a claim. And coming from Donald Trump, I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't even true. But if this is true, I'd still probably vote for Clinton in the end and want her as our next president. I personally like her much better than Trump, who has probably done worse than a possible association with a past KKK member.
ReplyDeleteMy personal opinion is that you should vote for a president based on policy, so this rumor, true or not, wouldn't really affect me. Also, even if Clinton did have a mentor-student relationship with Byrd, we don't know the true nature of this relationship or the circumstances that may provide input about how Byrd may have influenced Clinton. While character and hidden intentions are important, I think voters have to decide if they think that matters more than policy.
ReplyDeleteI do not think that this accusation will affect Clinton's campaign. Many people agree with her policy and what she stands for and I believe that that will not be deeply affected by the candidates attempts to make each other look bad.
ReplyDeleteNot only is Donald Trump now spreading lies about his own rival but he does not realize his own mistake when he tries to build a wall. After so many of his attempts to "help" America I am still surprised that many people would actually vote for him, but also believe in the nonsense he spouts during a campaign.
ReplyDeleteIn all honesty I wouldn't be surprised if this was all a lie because I mean its coming from Donald Trump. In my opinion anything that comes out of Donald Trump is such nonsense, its ridiculous. So I don't think that this accusation will hurt Clinton's campaign because its just a rumor it hasn't been proved yet that it is true.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe that this accusation will significantly hurt Clinton's campaign. I would still trust Clinton because proven government officials have proven to be KKK members
ReplyDeletei dont believe trump has made an educated statement on anything in the past year. this isnt the first of his random hypocritical accusations. Trump, pulling the racism card? seriously????
ReplyDeleteThis accusation wont hurt Clinton, he just doing it bc his poll numbers are low so wants revenge on that. He thinks making Clinton look bad will make her numbers lower. If this accusation was true it will affect her candidacy because there wont be as many voters for her.
ReplyDeleteI think the accusations will not hurt Clinton, unless, they are proven to be true. If the accusation is true, it will not change the way she acts. If they are still only accusations, then yes I still trust her.
ReplyDeleteTrump has obviously made ludicrous accusations in the past, but this one doesn't even make a little sense. The KKK is extremely conservative, and Clinton represents liberal views, so of COURSE she didn't associate with a former KKK member for her campaign.
ReplyDeleteFrom how ridiculous trump sounds his tactic on bringing slandering Clinton. His accusation not only brought attention to the idea but made him sound completely dumb. #Kanye2020

ReplyDeleteNo I do not believe that this accusation will hurt Clinton's campaign. Trump has been know to make false accusations an lie before so why is this time any different? He is always going back and forth on policies and his views on them and saying how he never said certain statements that contradict with what he is saying, which makes this time no different.
ReplyDeleteI think if this claim were true, it would definitely have a small impact on Clinton's campaign. Being influenced by a member of the KKK can only bring bad rep for Clinton, even if any racist ideas weren't adopted by her.
ReplyDeleteIf I were to, or if anyone else were to believe anything that comes from the mouth of Donald Trump, they must be very foolish to be listening to one of the most unreliable of sources to obtain information from. If this claim were the slightest bit true, I would not only continue to not support Hillary, but possibly vote Trump just to prevent leadership of the U.S. to be under a clan member of the KKK.
ReplyDeleteOf course this will affect her campaign because people would not want that type of person as president. It would depend on the type of mentor she was and what type of advise he gave her. I would trust her as our president because she is not Donald trump.
ReplyDeleteThis will definitely affect Clinton's campaign because she was mentored by a man that caused a lot of damage by being involved in the KKK. This is a really strong accusation that affects her a lot because people will not trust her and he decisions as a president.
ReplyDeleteThis accusation will not significantly hurt Clintons campaign for the fact that Trump has made false claims before. Reassuring his politics on immigration was also changed it can be certain his claims will not be taken seriously. In fact, Trump was the one who was associated with David Duke also the ex grand wizard of the KKK. On that note, it's clear that Clinton is saved by the claims made by Trump due to his own involvement with the KKK
ReplyDeleteThis accusation will not significantly hurt Clinton's campaign because I don't think people will take this seriously. I do not think this will affect her political opinions because she will say whats best to get her elected and stay in power. I would still consider Clinton as a possible presidential candidate because I think she still has ideas that many people would like.
