‘She Has a Name,’ Alicia Machado, and It Is Everywhere

Near the end of the debate, Clinton tells us that Trump had called 1996 Miss Universe winner "Miss Piggy" and "Miss House Keeping". He was at the pageant and he was commenting on her body weight saying,"this is somebody who likes to eat". At the time she was 19. After the debate her name had been mentioned in multiple articles. A spokeswoman for Trump said that these accusations were totally baseless. Alicia Machado says,"For me, this election has been like a bad dream, watching this guy again do the stupid things and stupid comments so misogynous and so machista," Ms. Machado said on the call. A Republican political commentator noticed how Alicia was also an actor in telenovelas and that she is a powerful messenger to reach Hispanics, which is what Clinton needs.
What is your opinion on this issue?
How would you react if you were Alicia Machado?
Do you think this a good step forward for Clinton?
In the past, Trump has said very nasty things, and calling a former Miss Universe winner "Miss Piggy" when she was only 19 is no exception. It shocks me that even after all this time, people still want to elect him, even though it's obvious that he will do literally anything so that he can stay relevant. Clinton should benefit from Trump's insensitive comments, because at least she's a mature adult.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Natalie, for Trump does not realize how his insensitive comments can effect the lives of not only just Ms. Machando, but others of hispanic background. This doesn't exactly help Clinton take a step forward being this scenario just allows Trump to be in the spot light again just as with other instances. Hence providing publicity for Mr. Trump, turning a negative situation into a positive one.
ReplyDeleteThroughout the course of his career, Trump has made some of the nastiest comments about people. Some of the nastiest things you could think of have probably come out of his mouth in a way. He has absolutely no filter about what comes out of his mouth which in some way is a problem. In all honest if it weren't for his comments I can guarantee he wouldn't have kept being relevant. Another republican probably could have taken the nomination from him, yet Trump used what he knew how to do in order to stay relevant. Now if I was Alicia, personally I would not care at all. I have thick skin and I do not let meaningless comments get to me. If you have something to say, then go ahead and say it. If it's negative then so be it cause I will not cry about it. However, not many people are like that which Trump does not understand. He takes no one's feelings into consideration. This is definitely a good move for Clinton because she can benefit from this a ton. She can show people that she is a sensitive mature adult.
ReplyDeleteTrump just likes criticizing other people, but himself because he doesn't have a heart. If I were in her position I would just brush those comments off because she is a celebrity herself and probably gets bad comments everyday from people here and there. This doesn't really effect Clinton at all, but it will make her look better than Trump.
ReplyDeleteI think there are a lot of things that Trump doesn't need to say.I don't think she should care because everyone will always get hate and its something more famous people should be used to. I with Matteo agreeing that this will not effect Hilary at all.
ReplyDeleteTrump shouldn't be worry or making fun of Alicia Machado. I would be angry and do everything possible to speak out against Trump's campaign if I were Alicia Machado. I think some women will vote for Clinton because of Trump's comments.
ReplyDeleteI think this was very wrong of Trump to say such things about a person. It is very rude and disrespectful and should not be taken lightly or forgotten when deciding the next president. If I were Alicia Machado, I would be very upset and hurt that someone was saying such awful things about me, let alone someone who is a candidate and is running for president. Trump's behavior raises questions about his impulse control, which has become a central line of attack for his opponent Hillary Clinton. I think this should help Clinton because it shows Trump's true character and how insensitive, disrespectful, and shows how disgusting Trump is towards others.
ReplyDeleteI am absolutely disgusted with trump's misogynistic and nasty comments towards the beautiful Alicia Machado. I feel as if this is a good step forward for Clinton because Machado is able to use her status, fame, story, and involvement in television to discredit Trump and make him appear as a less desirable president.
ReplyDeleteTrump is a complete misogynist and should be held accountable for his actions. I think Clinton is using this to her advantage and reaching out to women whom Trump has a bad relation with. She is right though, this election is a bad dream.
ReplyDeleteLike others have said in previous comments, I think that the comments made by Trump are extremely inappropriate and insensitive, but he does not realize how the things he says can have a very harsh affect on someone. I think it is great that Alicia is speaking out against Trump and taking a stand. I think it does play into the hands of Clinton because it is promotes the fact that a great deal of people find him fit to run our country.
ReplyDeleteIf Trump wanted to win, one would think he would have the intelligence to not make comments about people that are uncalled for and hurtful. i think this is a positive step for Hilary because she is using this for her advantage and it will help her gain support from other people now.
ReplyDeleteI believe it was very inappropriate for trump to make these comments. Even if he was he though that he could have just left his opinions to himself especially if his opinions were not nice.

ReplyDeleteIt is never okay to vocalize harmful comments about a woman's body, or anyone's body for that matter. Here, Trump is just a representation of society, and he also represents the harsh reality that people do view women as such. However, while Trump is vocal about his opinions, Hillary on the other hand also has a record of humiliating women. During Bill Clinton's presidency, Hillary labeled women that Bill Clinton were involved in as "bimbos." And she herself even covered up the numerous scandals instead of standing up for those sexually assaulted by Bill Clinton. While the media may be covering Trump more than Hillary on his words, it is fair to say that under the fake veneer, Hillary is also unfit for presidency. However, with the spotlight on Trump, it is easy to say that Hillary as an advantage, thanks to Trumps incompetence.
ReplyDeleteWith the way that Trump comments about others is very concerning. This man will be running the country and for all we know he'll just be judging everyone. A president shouldn't be judgmental of their own people. These comments of his make him seem very unprofessional and even childlike.

ReplyDeleteI think this is a good example of Trumps misogyny and racism. The case will definitely make Hillary seem like a more rational candidate. If I were Alicia I would be both outraged and confused because Alicia is not fat and judges should not be attacking contestants based off their heritage.

ReplyDeleteThis shocks me because someone as powerful as him was able to call her that in public. It should really open people's eyes to what kind of a man he is. If I were Alicia, it would've caused a traumatic experience for me. Clinton really stepped up her game by showing the country what kind of person Trump is. By using Alicia as evidence further helps her campaign and shows everyone's eyes how messed up he is.
ReplyDeleteI believe him involving other people into his presidency is childish. If i were Alicia Machado id be very hurt and insecure with Trump letting everyone know. Yes I think this is a good froward for Clinton because now she has most of the Hispanic voters on her side
ReplyDeleteit is hardly new knowledge that donald trump is racist and misogynistic. Donald trump has never shown any semblance of respect to any woman or person of filipino or latino descent, and this is just another example of this.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Trump should just keep his own thoughts to himself because the more he says things that people might not like the more his image is decreasing. If I were her I would prove to Trump that he is wrong and that he should take back his words. I believe that this is a bigger step because Trump seems like he is the type to discourage woman or even make them insecure to bring their self of steam to a lower level.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion is I still am confused as to how this man can still have supporters after all the offensive, un-factual, and unintelligent things he has said. If I were Machando I would use this as a way to get a strong voice for women in America and do speeches. And yes, this is 100% a good thing for Clinton.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, Trump is being excessively rude. No person who has this little common courtesy to others should even be considered as our president.
ReplyDeleteDonald Trump is a racist misogynist bigot who is a cyber bully per se(tm). These comments are very unpresidential and even if he is trying to be braggadocios and all, it is a reflection of his poor temperament. Alicia Machado was innocent! In my opinion I think your boy Gary Johnson is the real winner here because in all honesty it's just a real clown fiesta.
ReplyDeleteI highly agree with you Matthew. Except I haven't really looked into Gary Johnson's policy as a Libertarian. Unfortunately there are many people(mostly men) that will not vote for Trump(cause he is kinda a joke)and they won't vote for Hillary either because of her views or because she is a female.

DeleteTrump is just an idiot so we expect him to say things like this. We can't do anything about it except hope that he does not become president. This is good for Hillary because people will take her seriously and actually listen to her points rather than listen to Trump's BS
ReplyDeleteThis is just Trump being himself. He has always been rude and hasn't changed. If I was Machado I would probably use her fame to try to convince people not to vote for Trump. I think this is a good step forward for Clinton since Machado can influence the Hispanic community not to vote for Trump.

ReplyDeleteI personally screwed up with Alicia Machado, by insulting her really puts him at a disadvantage. If i was Alicia Machado i'd give my full support to Hillary Clinton. This is a great step for Clinton, because she needs the support of the latino community, and Alicia is a messenger to all latinos.
ReplyDeletetrump has really lost his chances with the Latino community, by insulting her really puts him at a disadvantage. If i were Alicia Machado, I'd give my full support to Hillary Clinton. This is a great step for clinton, because she will get the support of the Latino community, which she needs.
DeleteI think this is a big boost to Clinton's votes because many would see the terrible prejudice and injustice Trump has made to the public. Not only that but Trump's constant insults are one of the many reasons voters have not voted for him.
ReplyDeleteIf I were her, I would be upset by Trump's words but glad he was getting repercussions for his actions. Clinton's reference to this really brought out Trump's insensitivity and discrimination as well as his obvious disrespect for women. I feel many women would be offended by this and likely lend their support to Clinton or one of the other candidates.
ReplyDeleteI think that the actions Clinton took on this debate with Alicia Manchado were a very good strategic step forward for her in this election
ReplyDeleteIf I was Alicia Manchado, I would be upset, but I would also stand with Hillary to show how messed up Trump is. I think Clinton is using a good strategy by getting a person who has big influence in the Hispanic community.

ReplyDeleteI believe that if I were in similar shoes, then i not let it effect me because you should not be offended by words if you know the truth. The actions that Clinton took were appropriate in the sense of getting ahead in the election.
ReplyDeleteI would react the exact same way as Alicia Machado.I think this is a great step forward for Clinton.
ReplyDeleteNobody has the right to judge or call others names , Alicia is getting bullied by Trump's comments and thats not fair .
ReplyDeleteI think that it is very wrong for Trump to degrade someone like this. This makes Trump's image in the eye of the people even worse than it already is. In my opinion, this helps Clinton's campaign since this shows people just who exactly Trump is and how he comes across as rude and childish at times.
ReplyDeleteSadly, this is not surprising to me that Trump would make comments like these. It makes me sick that people are actually considering him for president. Alicia did the right thing in speaking up about and this will be a great thing for Clinton in acquiring new supporters.
ReplyDeleteI think that trump is disgusting for treating and talking to women the way he does and Hillary did the right thing to bring it up and remind people of how disrespectful he is.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Alicia should continue to speak up because she has a spotlight, staring in telenovelas. I think that this is a step forward for Hillary. Every encounter and disgusting thing that Trump says, the further away he gets from running the country (I hope).
ReplyDeleteThis is not fair, I don't understand why he is still being allowed to run for president. I think trump is a joke and looks like a joke and he should not be judging Because he is not so good looking himself. I think if I were alicia I would have been extremely sad and I think she handled the situation well. I think this is great for Hillary because she is more likely to get more votes now.
