Following president-elect, Donald Trump's tweet stating that he feels that people who burn the American flag should be severely punished or even have their citizenship revoked, people are becoming concerned with whether or not they believe that he will protect and preserve the rights set forth in the Constitution once he is inaugurated in January.
His tweet saying that he feels that those people should be punished not only shows that he does not know his First Amendment rights that protect his freedom of speech, but he also neglects many of the bizarre things he says against minorities, women, and other americans.
The Supreme Court has ruled that flag burners are constitutionally protected by the first amendment. On top of that, Supreme court has also made known that it is impossible to strip someone of their citizenship.
Some find his tweets to be meaningless. However, people must not neglect the fact that social media allows him to spread his thoughts and opinions to millions of people all over the world and that he will become one of the most powerful people in the country in January once he is inaugurated.
Discussion Questions:
- What do you think this tweet shows about Trump and how prepared or ready he is to become president?
- Do you think that Trump says bizarre things he may not really mean to gather more attention?
- Do you think that the people of our country should be concerned with the fact that he may not be familiar with all of the rights set forth in the Constitution?
This maybe reveal that he is prepared a little bit more. I think he means them. I do think we should be concerned.
ReplyDeleteThis shows us how unprepared he is. I think that people need to be aware that he is unfamiliar with our constitution/amendments.
ReplyDeleteI mean... technically ammendments can be changed... Also retiring a flag involves burning it so...
ReplyDeleteI think that he is unfamiliar with his rights like this but many people are ^agreeing with Nic, to retire the American Flag traditionally it is burned so things like this show that he is not aware/prepared to become president; I think that people should be aware of what he says and what he thinks but not necessarily too concerned because of who Trump is
ReplyDeleteRetiring a WORN OUT FLAG is what burning a flag is. There are also 4 other options to retire a worn out flag. The worn out part is actually important. A lot of these people are not burning worn out flags. They are upset and need to act like children. Go ahead and burn the flag all you want. However, it accomplishes nothing. I support your right to free speech, and have fun burning that flag. It's good to know your parents raised a child who cannot use words, but must use fire in order to get their point across.
ReplyDeleteTrump doesn't know his U.S. history; there is a supreme court case where burning a flag for political purposes was deemed constitutional. I don't really understand the goal of tweets like this...
ReplyDeleteIm not sure why you say he doesn't know his first amendment rights. He says nobody should be allowed. He doesnt say they are not allowed to are need to be sent to prison because of it. But on the other hand, the fact that he puts these whinny tweets up is a whole different story.

ReplyDeleteI think this is a 8-D chess move from Trump that is basically him trolling on Twitter again to make people angry. Right now CNN is flaming him for infringing on the First Amendment but it's something that Hillary Clinton proposed, he is just baiting kids and exposing them per se. But I still believe he is a racist misogynist, pansexual homophobi degenerate.
I think that many people are afraid of Trump as a president due to his lack in experience and for that reason they are magnifying every little thing that he says and does.
ReplyDeleteTrump has no political experience in his background, so it's not surprising that he doesn't know it. It's still hard to believe he was elected in the first place.
ReplyDeleteI believe that this tweet just displays Trump's immaturity and also his inexperience in politics. He should be focusing on how to make the people not hate him rather than posting on social media.
ReplyDeleteI think Trump is being ridiculous and completely immature in his policies. More over he has no political background which displays he does not know his US history or the amendments.
ReplyDeleteI think his tweet shows how ridiculous is, we all know he has no experience in politics. Its not hard to believe tat he doesn't know it and he most likely doesn't know any other major political facts he should know as elected president
ReplyDeleteBurning the flag is a stupid way to rep your first amendment because people died for that flag. He is wrong in the fact to say they should have consequences but I get why he tweeted that; To respect fallen soldiers.
ReplyDeleteI think that this tweet from our President elect shows that he is still tripping over his own feet, he really just does not think before he speaks most of the time. Also I do follow the idea that he does stuff like this to gain popularity among the country, popularity in his mind being people talking about him.
ReplyDeleteThis tweet shows how prepared and serious Trump is for being president. I feel that he says bizarre things to get more attention from the people. It also shows him immaturity with politics.
ReplyDeleteI believe this tweet shows that Trump will need to try and take some history courses to get a refresher on the amendments. Trump is a bizarre man who will probably say very outrages things in the future. Having a president who doesn't even know the rights that we have is a very pressing matter because he is the face of America for now and he is making us look pathetic.
ReplyDeleteThis shows how far trump got by saying stupid stuff throughout the whole campaign and it just proves to us that trump ain't about that life he's not ready to be president. Trump's been using this tactic since day one saying some crazy stuff to gain more attention on social media because he already knows kids will be posting it everywhere.
ReplyDeleteIf he were to say and tweet mediocre comments like these before he was elected as president then maybe it was used to promote himself, however, he already won the presidency and there shouldn't be a reason to continue saying things like these. This may be a warning to the people of the US that he may not know much of the US's basic rights and statements that are in the Constitution.
ReplyDeletePresident Trump's tweet proves that he is inexperienced and lacks knowledge about U.S. History. I think over the next few months he needs to have a quick history recap and one in government too because he does not seem to know much. I think sometimes Trump says things to get attention, but I also believe sometimes he says other things because he does not know what he is saying at times. I do believe that Americans should be considered of his lack of knowledge, but the people who voted for him know that he is not experienced in politics or history, they probably voted for him because of his economic plans. Hopefully, Trump will be able to gain more knowledge and learn more as his presidency goes on.
ReplyDeletePeople cannot only pay attention to his comments based on whether they agree with him or not. It is accepted that he has no experience, and while bad politically, he will be prevented from any large scale action by the house of representatives or congress due to his own lack of familiarity with the constitution
ReplyDeleteThis clearly shows us all how unprepared he is and how he lacks knowledge. In my opinion I think that Trump sometimes says things to just get attention but also he says things out of the blue because he does not know what he is saying at times and does not think about the outcome of his comments will be, but at the end of the day he wont even care what the outcome is because irrelevant comments from him have been going on since before he became president.
ReplyDeleteThis tweet is indicative of Trump's lack of experience with U.S. government and history, and this is concerning since he is going to be our President. Trump has definitely stated opinions that have drawn the media's attention, and I believe this was a tactic used in order to promote his campaign and popularity. I do not think it is too much of a concern since the House of Representatives and Congress would prevent him from making any unconstitutional laws.
ReplyDeleteI think that this tweet shows that Trump is not qualified to be president because he is not upholding the first amendment right. I think that Trump may say things to get people to listen to him, but also says it because he believes it and knows what he is saying as well. I definitely think the people should be concerned with this since he will be in charge of the country, and the leader should be knowledgeable about these things.
ReplyDeleteI think this tweet shows that Trump isn't familiar with the history of the US or the rights of citizens. Trump makes outrageous comments to keep some of his supporters happy.
ReplyDeleteThis tweet shows his lack of knowledge when it comes to U.S. rights. I believe that sometimes he just tweets these things just to get attention.
ReplyDeleteTrump is an exhibitionist and is probably just using this to seal his supporters faith and make himself seem more American.
ReplyDeleteI think that this tweet shows that he is not prepared to be president. I think he says things to both gain attention and actually means them too. When he get backlash from things he says, he says he did not actually mean it, but saying something just to gain attention should not be something our future president should be doing.
ReplyDeleteThe tweets show that he is not ready to be president because as the future president he does not know his amendment correctly which looks completely unfit. Trump has tweeted in the past to get attention and maybe since people are paying less attention to him he wants it back, but he looks very unprofessional and not ready to be president with his lack of knowledge.
ReplyDeleteI think Trump knows everything I think he is just disgusted that people are burning the American flag. I don't think that he tweets all of these things just for attention I think that he just says things without really thinking about it. So I think the thing we should worry about is not what he's tweeting but his lack of self control.
ReplyDeleteI agree with noah, trump conveys how he is so ignorant to basic issues and the power he has over them. Yes, america should be worried for having this man be the future of this country.
ReplyDeleteThese tweets show his incapability to be president. If he does not know the basic rights of an American, how can we expect him to run our country successfully?
ReplyDeleteI also agree that Trump knows the amendments, but thinks that no matter what people shouldn't be defacing our country and burning our flag. Yes one can if they feel the need too, but it is very disrespectful and shouldn't happen.
ReplyDeleteburning the american flag is really disrespectful ,if you are loyal american you would never do this but Trump is always exaggerating about everything and nothing seems real with him.
ReplyDeleteI think that Trump is trying to be funny at the same time that he is preparing to take office, but it is only making him look uneducated and making people more nervous about his upcoming presidency.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Trump's comment demonstrates how little knowledge he has on the first amendment. He is expressing an opinion yet doesn't accept the fact that other people can also express their opinions.
ReplyDeleteI think Trump is very overwhelmed by his victory of taking over presidency, and I believe this worries many US citizens considering he doesn't know about his first amendment.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Trump thinks that the future of the nation is a joke, and something he doesn't need to take all that seriously. I believe it shows how ignorant he is. And through this, he shows how close minded he is. He believes that his opinions and thoughts are the only ones that make sense and deserve to be heard. However, this nation is built on our liberties.
ReplyDeleteHe looks very unprofessional and not ready to be president with his lack of knowledge. He believes that his opinions and thoughts are the only ones that make sense and deserve to be heard. However, this nation is built on our liberties.

ReplyDeleteTrump seems like he doesnt know what he's doing based on his tweets. If he has to get his policies through using social media than it looks unprofessional and he should be ejected off the presidential seating.
