Bernie Sanders claims that he could've beat Donald Trump, who only won because
America was "desperate and in despair, and not because they were racist. Sanders had
high hopes in the election but ended up losing behind Trump and Hillary. Sanders slammed
Trump on his racist beliefs: "I call on Mr. Trump to rescind the appointment he made of Mr.
Bannon. A president of the United States should not have a racist by his side...Unacceptable." However, Bernie is giving Trump a shot at being president, and believing in him although they have many different beliefs. Sanders knows that he has made an impact on the election by stating: "My campaign brought millions of people into the political process, the overwhelming majority of whom ended up voting for Hillary Clinton." Bernie believes that the democratic party needs a change by hoping that the party is able to stand up to the powerful people who are destroying the middle class. If the democratic party isn't willing to stand up to the powerful and rich, Sanders believes " I don’t see much of a future for the Democratic Party." During his speech, Sanders exclaims that he knows majority of the citizens aren't racist, sexist, and homophobes, so Trump won't be able to pass racist policies.
Discussion Questions:
- Did Bernie Sanders really have a chance against Trump? How so?
- Did Sanders create a huge impact on the political world?
- What is your opinion on the Democratic Party standing up to the rich and powerful?
- Will Trump be able to pass racist policies now that he's president?
He did have a chance against Trump because he was really influential in the youth in America and cares about us and the future. I don't know if he did but he did influence out youth of a little while. No because congress would not be behind him.
ReplyDeleteI think that Bernie Sanders was a good candidate but the southern states finally had a candidate that wants to take part in deporting illegal immigrants AKA Donald Trump so they took advantage and voted for Trump. I also think Bernie didnt have a chance because Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have such big names and so much money especially Donald.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Bernie Sanders would have had a good shot against Donald Trump because first of all he was supported by millions of people and also there is nothing there that could really taint his name. For example with Hillary and her emails and the FBI investigations may have caused her to lose.
ReplyDeleteI think Bernie Sanders would have a good shot going up against Donald Trump because it seems that may people actually really enjoyed him, I do believe that he is a people person. I think he had made an impact on the political world.
ReplyDeleteI think Sanders would've had a good chance at winning because I think a lot of people didn't vote for Clinton was because of the emails. Also, I believe that people are scared to have a female President.
ReplyDeleteI don't think he had a good chance of winning because if he did, he would have beat Clinton. I think he created a big impact on the political world because he still has a lot of supporters in the younger generations. I don't know what's gonna happen with Trump; we will all have to just wait and see.
ReplyDeleteI think Sanders would have had a good chance of winning the election because of the large number of people who support him. Due to this support, he does have an influence on the political world.
ReplyDeleteI do believe that Sanders would have had a good chance in winning, for he was sort of he middle ground of the candidates. Trump is seen as a racist and Clinton is seen corrupt, and also a lot of people are not ready to have a woman as president.
ReplyDeleteI think Bernie would have had a good chance of winning because like Caitlyn said there was many people supporting him.
ReplyDeleteI think Bernie Sanders would have a chance winning against Trump. Sanders was highly popular among younger voters, thus making a big impact in the political world and encouraging younger voters to actively participate. Sanders also had a cleaner record than Clinton. The FBI investigation of Hillary Clinton and the issues with the emails tested her credibility among voters, and this was detrimental towards her campaign; Sanders would not have faced the same issue. I feel like Trump will not be able to pass racist policies. Although he is the elected President, not a lot of Republicans agree with his policies, and he may not get a majority vote. As for deportations, that is still a possibility since Trump actively advocates for it, but discriminatory laws would not be passed. For the LGBT community, the law legalizing gay marriage was widely accepted and will not be repealed, but anti-discriminatory laws may be repealed, putting the LGBT community in a bad position.
ReplyDeleteI liked what Alex said. Bernie was a candidate for the youth, and if he was the democratic candidate, he would have engaged the youths even more. During this election, I have seen youths take part in many activities concerning politics such as going to rallies and filming rallies. What Bernie could have done was finally get the millennials and youth excited for their future even though his policies are not as ideal as we would like them to be.
ReplyDeleteI personally very much appreciate what Bernie Sanders is implying/stating outright. He is being very realistic and mature about the outcome of the election. he seems to be about the only person who IS being sensible and realistic, which is truly a shame for the nation as a whole. The entire country is not racist, many are just desperate
ReplyDeleteI think that Bernie Sanders would have had a good chance against Trump. Although Hillary did beat him, the issues with her emails may have caused her to lose supporters to Trump. Like many have said, Bernie Sanders had a large influence on younger voters which created a huge impact on the political world.
ReplyDeleteBernie Sanders definitely impacted the political world in the form of the youth in America. His campaign really represented what much of the younger generation desires for the future of their country. Although many of his ideas were very extreme and maybe unrealistic. His success reveals an interesting turn for the future of politics and America.
ReplyDeleteI highly doubt that Trump will be able to pass any racist policies in his time of being president. Although he may be the next president, he does not hold all of the power and any possible racist policies would more than likely be turned down by the people.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe that he could have beat Trump. If he couldn't get enough votes within the Democratic party, how would he get more of the republican votes? I do not believe that Trump will be able to pass all these racist policies that he has been talking about now that he's president.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Bernie would have a better chance against Trump. I also believe that Trump will not be able to pass racist policies even though he is president
ReplyDeleteIt honestly should have been Bernie for President. I feel like he would have won because he appealed to a lot of the youths who need help with college.
ReplyDeleteI think Bernie would of had a great chance against trump because he would of had support of all the young college students. I do think sanders created a pretty big impact in the political world. I do not like the fact that the democratic party supports the rich and the powerful because thats not giving the rest of the country and equality what so ever. I don't think Trump means to be racist i think the media made him sound racist so no, i do not believe that he will pass racist policies.
ReplyDeleteWhat Bernie states in some sense brings light to what many of the protestors and blind citizens fail to see. Many voters were sick of the copy and paste image of clinton, let alone her criminal record that very well should have landed her in jail. Bernie Sanders points out the truer side to Trump's election in the intentions of his voters, realizes he has won, and has spoken out in saying he will be working to come to agreements with the man and move on. We will never know if he would have won against Trump also, given the simple fact he did not have the chance to. His younger voters historically have terrible voter turn outs as well, creating for a similar "done deal" situation many believed for clinton.
ReplyDeleteI believe people often are overreacting over Trumps racist beliefs, I do not believe that he will truly be able to pass racist policies as the country as a whole is very aware that racism and segregation in law is unconstitutional and will never be allowed in the US again.
ReplyDeleteAs for Senator Sanders, I definitely believe if he was the democratic nominee, he would have without a doubt beaten Donald Trump. The amount of hype that surround Sanders when he was running had zero dents. Even between Trump and Hillary, every candidate had major holes that no one could agree on completely. Sanders would have been a different candidate.
ReplyDeleteI think Bernie was robbed by the DNC because the game was rigged. It's unfortunate that his own party would do him in like that. As to him beating Trump I cannot say. But but but, right now mah boi Wolf Blitzer is telling me on CNN that there is still a way that Bernie Sanders can win. Oh wait just in right now the NY Times and the HUffington post just confimred these statistics with a 90% chance that Bernie will be the next President--I'll take my chances with that.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that he would have won. I do however think that he should have been the democratic nominee but thanks to the DNC that didn't happen. Furthermore, I still don't think that he would have won. I don't think people really wanted another politician as president. And Bernie's views were very utopian and even though a lot of people in our generation liked him, a lot in the older generations didn't. I don't think that a lot of Trumps policies will pass. His own party doesn't like him so I think that to make sure he doesn't embarrass them they will keep him in check. Every president always talks about change in their campaign and they never actually get around to fulfilling a lot of those processes. I believe that thats what is going to be like with Trump.
ReplyDeleteI feel like if Bernie could have a chance against Trump. He was a close runner up to Hillary for representing the Democratic Candidates and had a real shot at becoming president.
ReplyDeleteBernie could not have a chance against Trump, being he said lots of things he could not own up to, just as Hillary did, which is why they both ended up where they are right now.
ReplyDeleteNow that Trump is President I don't think he will pass the racist policies due to everything that he has said in his campaign.
ReplyDeleteI think Bernie could have had a chance to become president. Even though she lost it, Clinton also had a chance of winning, and I think the same thing could have happened to Bernie.
ReplyDeleteI think Bernie would have had a chance in the election. No one really has anything against hm. He's just this sweet old man who should have won. #FeeltheBern
ReplyDeleteBernie Sanders would have had a good chance of winning the election because he had a lot of younger voters who support him. This comes to show that he did have an influence on our nation politically.
