Days after Trump was elected president of the United States many were frustrated about how the election went down and felt that their voices were not heard. Many decided to go out and protest either violently or peacefully and that is what hundreds of students across the United States decided to do, many are unable to vote, but still proceed to have their voices heard. One very astounding case of these Protest was when History Teachers at a High School in New York City allowed their Students to skip their Classes and attend the Protests that were at Trump Tower. Many other High School Students decided to even travel to New York City to protest with other Students. Other Teachers at the High School objected the decision of letting the History Teachers allowing their Students to leave the School. Officials from the Department of Education told the press that the Students who did skip class on Tuesday will face punishment.
Do you believe that Students should take part in protests such as these?
Do you think Students should be allowed to skip School to be apart of these protests? Why?
Do you believe that Students should be punished for speaking up? Why or Why not?

everybody should have a chance to express what they feel about the elections and the new president as long as its done peacefully and respectfully .the only down side is skipping school and considered as an excused absence ,otherwise we have the freedom to protest.
ReplyDeleteI don't think history teachers should let their students skip school. Students do have the right to express their beliefs peacefully, but it should not be an exception to skipping school.
ReplyDeleteAs people in the united states, we deserve to express ourselves through protests. I think that there is no use protesting Donald Trump specifically. He is president elect and protesting will do nothing to change that. I liked that during our walk out here at Aragon we made it less about Donald Trump and more about love and acceptance. In my mind that is the only way to go.
ReplyDeleteI think that students have the right to voice their opinions but they should do so without skipping school.
ReplyDeleteI believe the student protest is stupid because Trump is already the president to be. School should not be skipped for the protest because their subjects do not relate to the presidency. Students shouldn't be punished for speaking up but they should be punished for ditching school to protest.
ReplyDeleteI mean, they went to the protest and got their voices heard, but so what? After the conclusion of Aragon Student Walk-Out on Tuesday, I have noticed that less people talk trash about Trump. If the students, or any group of people, want to make a big change, they should seek a more radical campaign because peaceful protesting is absolutely worthless.
ReplyDeleteI believe that everyone in this country, of or not of age should be supportive of the country and respect that if they aren't old enough to vote, their elders will do the right thing.
ReplyDeletei think students should participate in these type of protests even though trump already won and there's nothing else you can do but it's still good to have your voice heard.
ReplyDeleteStudents should take part in these protests if they really believe that their voice has power. If they believe that taking part in the protest will help them voice their opinions then they should. I don't think students should be able to skip school, but they shouldn't be forced to stay. Skipping school should only be allowed when they understand their consequences. Students should never be punished for their own opinions,it is a right we all have.
ReplyDeleteWhile I would never participate in a large protest, I believe that the freedom of speech is a constitutional right that all US citizens, at least, have, if not all human beings. It is understandable why schools would punish their students for protesting, because doing so is dangerous. But if the students are aware of the consequences, then they should be free to do whatever they want, because it's their voice, and not the school's.
ReplyDeleteStudents should participate because their voice does have power and with many people coming together their voice may have more power than them alone I think that they should participate if they really believe that they must voice their opinions .I think that while the school should not necessarily allow them to skip school if they truly want to they should accept their consequences for skipping school but not be punished further for doing so
ReplyDeleteI think students are not recognized enough. Because we are minors, people see us as that. If a student wants to participate in a protest they should do that at their own free will if they understand the consequences.
ReplyDeleteI think students should take part in protests because it is their future on the line. Students are the future and their voice should be heard. Like Sofia mentioned, students who are genuinely concerned about the situation should accept the consequence for skipping school but not be punished unnecessarily
ReplyDeleteI do believe that they should have been able to protest because it is their right and they deserve to be heard by the rest of the world. I do believe they should be able to skip school because we have to be heard now and not later. Missing one day of school will not affect us but the way this country will be run will affect our future. In my personal opinion they should get punished because they did the crime and now they have to do the time.
ReplyDeleteI belive that students leaving school to protest against the elected candidate Donald Trump speaks very loud because many schools are doing what many people cant, unite as one and stand up for themselves and try to be heard.
ReplyDeleteI believe that having students protest will have a big impact as long as they take that matter seriously. Many adults do not think students should protest especially middle school or kids in High school because they can not vote yet.
ReplyDeleteTo sum this up: Students had one day of being upset and went out to yell in Central Park. Participating in a protest is not enough. Raise money, get politically active and actually understand what CHANGE is. Yes a protest can go a long way, but not by much. Voice your opinion all you want, but these days that will do little to nothing. Actually do things that will make change over time. It is a long road ahead, but it can be done. Simply standing in Central Park, and shouting, will do little to nothing. It's a start. However, it is probably the smallest start.
ReplyDeleteI believe that students should take part in protests such as these because they have a mouth too. We should be able to express ourselves and standing up for what we believe in. This is a big deal because this we be out future for the next few years so I do not believe students should be punished for this.
ReplyDeleteI think the students should not be stopped from going to these because they have a right to protest and be able to speak up about their opinion.
ReplyDeleteI do believe that students should be able to participate in these protests; however, i believe if these students want to make a real impact they should go beyond just these protest and start helping out other campaigns and getting more politically involved. Students should not be punished for what they say as long as what they say follows the fist amendment guidelines.
ReplyDeleteI definitely believe students should have the ability to participate in these protests. If the younger generation has the passion to participate in political acts and voice their opinions, it should be encouraged. However, these protests should go further. These students should take action, become politically involved, or apply for an internship. Students should not be punished for participating in shaping their future, they should be educated on such political acts.
ReplyDeleteI think peaceful protests should be encouraged because it creates a supportive and positive community in which people can voice their opinions and feel that they are being heard. However, protests will not make a huge impact and I agree with others that say students longing to make a change should become more politically involved. Students should not be punished for wanting to voice their opinions as long as no harm is done to anyone or anything.
ReplyDeleteEveryone has the right to protest and have their voices heard. Its up to them if they want to skip school to protest, they should be able to do as they wish.
ReplyDeleteAlthough these peaceful protests can't change the presidential election, it does bring awareness. It allows students to have their voices heard and have their opinions out there. All people have the right to peaceful protest.
ReplyDeleteI do believe that students should be able to participate in these peaceful protest even though it will probably not do anything. Students should have the right to pursue what they wish and if protesting for their president then they should be able to.
ReplyDeleteI think that students have a right to peacefully protest for something they want to change. Even though the protest won't change who won the election its still an effective way to get people united.
ReplyDeleteI think students do have the right to participate in peaceful protests. And when students do these protests, it is not about missing a day of school. They are doing this to spread awareness and voice their opinion on issues like these to get others to see us and hear our voices.I don't think students should be punished for speaking up because they are just voicing their opinion, as these are simply peaceful protests.
ReplyDeleteI believe that students have the right to participate in peaceful protests; it is a given right in the Constitution. However, I also believe that protests alone will not bring change, and students should try and be more active citizens by participating in political activity or campaigns if they want change. I personally do not think students should skip school. Some teachers would see this as disrespectful, and in cases like ours, the absence would be unexcused and have consequences. Also, for schools like private universities, missing a single day could be detrimental which would be very bad since high tier schools like Stanford have such a high tuition. Students should not be punished for speaking up if it is done in a peaceful manner since it is a right, and they are trying to evoke positive change.
ReplyDeleteI recognize the power of protests, however, in this case, it is almost meaningless. It should not have taken America this election to be unified. Unification should have been earlier when it mattered most. From Aragon's protest, some kids took the opportunity to skip because they could and that completely undermines the value of protesting.
ReplyDeleteI strongly believe that students should not be punished for being part of a protest because that is the only way students could really get their voices heard since they may not vote. The protest may not make much of a difference, but everyone is to exercise their rights and since protesting can be one o the very few ways they can get their voice heard than they should go ahead and do it. Skipping school is not ok, but if it is needed to bring awareness a day of skipping won't do bad , it is not for a bad cause it is for a good cause.
ReplyDeleteIf students want to take part in the protest and want to have a chance for their voices to be heard they should take part in the protests. They should not be punished for protesting, but they should face some consequences for skipping school.
ReplyDeleteI personally think the trump protests right now are pointless, divisive, and a waste of time and energy. The point of a protest is to make a change. a good number of protests are occurring in places that are already overwhelmingly pro Clinton. what the nation needs right now is to come together, not separate and divide the country even farther
ReplyDeleteObviously students should not be punished for speaking up; this is a first amendment right. I think that students can take part in whatever protest they want, but I don't know if skipping school is necessary.
ReplyDeleteI think everyone has the option and freedom to protest against whatever they want at any time they desire, however I also think these specific protests won't have much of an impact on the election results. I do believe that this can curve the way Trump would like to do things as President, but I don't think these protests will do much else.
ReplyDeleteI believe that student should have the freedom to speak up for what they believe in and participate in whatever protests they choose. However, since most high school students are minors and are under the authority of their schools during school hours, they do break rules by leaving schools to attend protests. The students who choose to do this should feel strongly enough about what they are speaking for so that their punishment seems insignificant. That being said, I don't think that the schools should enforce extremely strict punishment for these students, but they should certainly not condone truancy and should carry on with the curriculum as planned.
ReplyDeleteI believe that students should take part in protests if they themselves understand what they're protesting against. I also believe that if people in general are going to protest about this specific issue, it should be about having those whom felt left out to be aware that there are people who are there for them no matter what a presidential candidate might have said. I don't think students should be allowed to skip school to be apart of these protests because at the end of the day, no matter how successful the protest was, it wont make too much of a difference in "the real world". I don't think anyone- students included, should be punished for speaking up. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and they have the right to voice it like anyone else.
ReplyDeleteI believe that students should take part in these protests because although they may not be able to vote, at least this way they can voice their opinion of the next president. And although these protests may be for good reason, I don't think they should be able to skip class as it would be hard to tell if any of them are actually leaving for the protest or are just leaving to ditch school for a bit.
ReplyDeleteYes I believe students should take in protests like this just for our voices to be heard and this is the only way for think what we believe now that we can vote. I am in the middle with letting students skip class, they should because their doing it for a good reason. Then then the students are missing on lessons they need to know. Students should not punished, we have the right of freedom of speech and participating in a peaceful protest shouldn't be the reason to be punished for.
ReplyDeleteI dont think students should be punished for speaking up per se but skipping class should come with its usual consequence.
ReplyDeleteI support us kids speaking up about national politics, but lets be honest, protesting against a president you didnt want elected isn't serious enough to require any sort of boycott, especially if its at the expense of free education.
I feel as if students contain a string enough belief in what they are protesting for they should take part in protests. The future of our lives is much more important than missing one day of school, rather even a whole week. However, students should be aware of the risk being taken by participating in these peaceful protests, and they should not be punished for standing up for what they believe in. Punishment would be to sit back and not do anything while everything you believe in is being violated.
ReplyDeleteI believe that students if they feel that they don't have a face in society then they should protest. I also don't know why kids are protesting because its a litle late now. They could've protested before so there would be a little less violence and less fear. They should be allowed to skip school.
ReplyDeletei believe that students should have the opportunity to protest. People should have the right to express how they feel freely. Students should not be allowed to skip school just to protest. They can do what they want on their own time, but school hours should be used as time to learn.
ReplyDeleteI think that students should be able to leave school and protest and have the chance to have their voices heard. However, protesting does not change who is president.
ReplyDeleteI believe that this is the very thing school has taught us. Throughout history, we have learned that it is important to make your voice heard and stand up for what you believe in. Obviously we cannot change who the president is, but we can let the country know that we will not stand for certain ideals that he promotes and believes in.
ReplyDeleteYes i believe you should take part of any protest as long as it follows your beliefs. I yes believe if you want something so bad you will be allow to skip school, but you would have to face the repercussions just as pleasantly for your cause.
ReplyDeleteI believe students should take part in protests like these if they have strong beliefs that the protests are trying to spread to the rest of the country. In all honesty, the students are required to be in school instead of protests; however, the cause of the protest is much more greater than one day of school and I think they should be allowed to participate and not be punished because they are having a chance to exercise their first amendment right in a rare occasion such as this very controversial election.
ReplyDeleteThe bottom line in this string of protests is this; students should not be allowed to leave school and protest at these rallies. Period. It is disrupting the school environment and considered against school policy to leave without an excuse. HOWEVER, this does not mean that beyond school punishment policies such as saturday school, detention or even expulsion should these students face penalties. If these students wish to protest and cut class, so be it. But they MUST face the consequences of cutting class, not matter what the occasion is. If schools let children off the hook for cutting to protest a president elect, then they should have let students cut to protest the obama election, or the Bush election and make it a regulatory exception. BUT IT'S NOT. So students by rule shouldn't be allowed, but they definitely can leave as long as they are fine with the repercussions, just like every other kid who cuts for other reasons. This 'special' election does not give any new reason just because some kids feel he isn't who they wanted. There were presidents prior that other people didn't feel represented them, but they learned to accept it. Many high school students can not even vote altogether, so their 'voice' not being heard is not even a voice at all without a vote. Those who did vote got their voice heard, but it wasn't what the nation as a whole wanted, so they must accept it like millions of other did in previous elections and move on with the person who IS their president, contrary to what many say.
ReplyDeleteThrough out all these school years this what we've been taught to do. To have our voice heard and stand up for what we think is right. If students wants to participate in these protests so be it
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree that students have the right to protest and to express their opinions, though if students ditch school for a protest they should not suddenly be exempt from punishments that they would otherwise recive. I think it is good when schools don't punish students for protesting however I think students are not immune to school rules simply because they are expressing their belifs
ReplyDeleteStudents should have the right to protest because they have freedom of speech but they do not have the right to do this while skipping school. Students go to school to get an education and if students skip school and go to protests like these they are not getting the necessary education that they deserve. On the other hand students going to these protests are fine because they are showing their freedom of speech but there needs to be something that allows these students to go hen school is not in session. Students should not be punished for speaking up because they are US citizens and are entitled to freedom of speech and they can voice it whenever they disagree with something.
ReplyDeleteI feel it is unnecessary that students are taking part in these protests being they are pointless. They will not benefit our nation in any way, it will not change anything. All it does is shows that our generation can't accept the change in the nation that is needed.
ReplyDeleteI think students should participate in the protest if they want to and if thats what they believe in. Everyone should have the chance to express the way they feel.
ReplyDeleteI would say that it is okay for students to participate in the protests, but it is also dependent on how strongly the students feel about what happened. I also don't think that students should be punished for expressing themselves and having their voices be heard especially if they are doing it in a peaceful manner.
ReplyDeleteStudents have the right to voice their opinions and take a stand for their future. However, these protest cannot change the result of the election. Instead, they should be striving to further educate themselves on this matter and get more politically involved for the future.
