Donald Trump claims that millions of people who voted illegally cost him popular vote, only because in Virginia, New Hampshire, and California Trump has said that it was, "serious voter fraud". In Wisconsin, Trump made the Green Party recount the popular vote and this has never been caused before until now. Just because of this one thing that he said he is making everyone second guess the electoral democracy as working probably and not being misuse. Donald has tweeted saying that, "...I won popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally" but yet again there is no real hard core evidence that states illegal voting. He could've gotten the idea of that by seeing stories on conspiracy websites. The Clinton campaign and White house checked and did not find anything wrong but they are still going to guarantee that the recounts are "fair to all sides". In 2012, Donald Trump tweeted, "the electoral college is a disaster for democracy" and four years later on November 15, 2016 he tweeted again saying, "the electoral college is actually genius and that it brings all states, including the smaller ones, into play. Campaigning is much different!" he tweeted that one week after the election day. It is really unexpected accusation for a president elect to make.
Discussion questions:
Why did Trump change his mind about the Electoral college? How is it genius all of a sudden?
Why Does he care about the Popular vote if he already won ?
How could he say 'millions of people who voted illegally' cost him popular vote if he doesn't have evidence to back it up?
I don't why he cares about it now the election is over and is already the elect.
ReplyDeleteI'm unsure as to why Trump still cares about the popular vote when he already won. I am 99% sure there are no illegal voters because I worked the polls and we did not let anyone vote who was not on the list. Trump's tweet about how the electoral college is great is obviously because he won. If he were not to win, he would have upheld his belief that it was corrupt.
ReplyDeleteI think he always just tries to find something to complain about and he should just drop it. He won the election and that's not gonna change so he should just stop acting immature.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that he dramatically changed his opinion on the electoral college just shows how hypocritical he is. The electoral college is what makes a candidate win the presidency, so why did he complain about it in the first place? He only showed praise for it because he won with it, which isn't right.
ReplyDeleteTrump cares about the popular vote because he always finds a need to claim that the system is rigged against him when he doesn't win everything. I think he should stop fighting the system and just accept the fact that he can't win everything, but at least he already won the presidential election.
ReplyDeleteHe wants to argue because he thinks he should have won both votes. Maybe because he wants the mindset of having the country in his hands.
ReplyDeleteTrump always tries to find something to complain about and I don't understand what he tries to get out of that like you're already President
ReplyDeleteTrump thinks about the popular vote the most because if he can get the majority of people going along with what hes doing then it would be easier for him. I think he should just not fight the system and know that not every thing you can win at.
ReplyDeleteI think that he wants this so badly because he is going to reform the Electoral college, but doesn't want to lose the presidency over it. I'm okay with giving him this small win if it means reform for the future, especially over something that is pretty set in stone.
ReplyDeleteTrump says anything he wants to say. The electoral college is suddenly genius because it's the only thing that allowed him to win the 2016 presidential election.
ReplyDeleteI don't even know why Trump needs to say this. So what he's losing the popular vote, he still won the electoral vote. The reason he lost the popular vote is because all the people that voted for Clinton were concentrated on already blue states. The electoral college is a mess, but he has a point- it does ensure that small states have a say. Who knows what a better solution would be, but nevertheless I don't know why he's spouting irresponsible stuff again. My best guess is that it helps him by spreading irrational fear of something that doesn't exist- maybe he'll be able to pass laws that will help him get re-elected next term. Whatever the case, it's pretty frustrating.
ReplyDeleteTrump might have had a second thought of running for president since he is going against the electoral college. Maybe he wanted to win with popular votes instead of the electoral college. Trump also has little to no evidence with everything he says, the only evidence he has is the word "wrong".
ReplyDeleteI agree with Stephanie on the part that why is he creating further conflict with the election votes. Now that he was elected president he needs to stop focusing on issues that do not matter as much as some do.
ReplyDeleteI think trump changed his mind about the electoral college because it worked in his favor it is hindsight bias. Since it helped him get elected as president of course he isn't going to discredit it.
ReplyDeleteI think that Trump changed his mind in terms of the electoral college because it helped him in the election. If it were not for the electoral college he would not have won. I don't really know why he is worrying about the popular vote because it in no way effects him and he already won.
ReplyDeleteA lot of times Trump says things without evidence behind him, and he does this a lot so it is not surprising that he believes that there was voting fraud. Obviously he said that the electoral college was genius because it was what let him win the vote, but I also believe that maybe after the election he realized that the electoral college can easily accurately represent each state. Trump probably wants a voting recount for the popular vote that way if he wins the recount people will have to accept the belief that more people want Trump than Clinton and it can legitimize his win as President.
ReplyDeleteI think that Trump changed him mind on the electoral college because that is how he won. He probably cares about the popular vote because some people say he did not deserve to win because he did not get more votes. Trump says a lot of thing without any evidence to back it up, and if it is proven that he is wrong he just acts like he never said it.
ReplyDeleteHe probably changed his mind because he won due to the electoral college.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Caner, that he changed his mind because the electoral college actually applied to him in this election because he was apart of it. Whereas before he was just a voter.
ReplyDeleteHe switch his beliefs due to winning the electoral vote.
