Donald Trump was elected President of the United States on Wednesday, November 9th, 2016. During an interview on the show "60 minutes", he said that he would not take the regular salary of $400,000 as president. "“I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year." Trump said during the interview. Being a billionaire, it is true that he does not need the money anyway. However, it's still ideal for the president to take the money anyway.
1. What are some reason why Trump may not have taken the money?
2. What does this decision say about Trump?
3. Do you think Trump is trying to make a statement with this decision?
I believe that Trump is just saying this. The money is not significant enough to make him a richer man.
ReplyDeleteHe did not take the money because he is already has millions, and he is still make millions. Overall, he does not need the salary that the president gets. He will be just fine after his job as president is over. I personally think Trump is trying to look like the good guy by making this decision. He wants to be seen as a less greedy man by not taking the salary. To be honest, he really does not need it, and I think even he knows that.
ReplyDeleteHe might not have taken the money, because he doesn't need the money, but he could have donated the $400,000 salary to help the people in need with it.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Trump doesn't necessarily need the money as he is already a millionaire, I think the idea of him only getting $1 a year is just unrealistic and a false statement.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Haley but I also think that if he's not going to accept the money then he could donate the money to an organization that needs the help
DeleteAt this point, I'm suspicious of anything that comes out of Trump's mouth. I believe he's said that he would take the $1 salary because he wants to come across not as self-serving. With this statement, he's telling the general public, "Hey, I'm not in it for the money!"
ReplyDeletei don't think thats reasonable and Trump is just acting because there is not point if he take the salary or no but maybe he is just trying to get more supporters and people to believe in him
ReplyDeleteI think that Trump could be pulling an act with this to get more supporters. Trump probably doesn't care much if he took the money because he is already wealthy.
ReplyDeleteI think that Trump was just being his regular self: a comedian. I actually think that he´s pretty funny.
ReplyDeleteI think one reason he might not take the money is because he already has a lot of money so he doesn't need any more. This says that trump is not in it for the money. I think he is trying to make statement that shows that he's in it to make a change.

ReplyDeleteTrump is a businessman who makes money from other companies anyways, so the money wouldn't even matter to him. The decision shows that he just cares about being president, and that money isn't an important factor when becoming president. I don't really think he's making a statement since most people already know he's rich.
ReplyDeleteI feel like the money does not matter to him as much because he has so much money already. i think that it shows that he is more interested in being a President than gaining more money by winning this position. I do not think that he is trying to make any type of statement by doing so
ReplyDeleteI think some of the stuff that comes out of his mouth is never true, like this. I think his accepting one dollar a year is to show that he makes enough money without the regular salary a president receives.
ReplyDeleteI think because he is already really rich. I think that he just doesn't need they money.
ReplyDeleteTrump probably just wants to sound humble but he also really does not need all that money. I feel like him making this decision just makes him sound a lot more arrogant.
ReplyDeleteI think he wouldn't take the money just because he doesn't need it and he wants to show the public that the money that would be going towards his salary could be used for something else. I am wondering how Trump is going to run his businesses and be president because both of these occupations are time consuming.
ReplyDeleteI feel like Trump said this with a sarcastic attitude behind it or he wanted to put up this front of not being in it for the money but for the people instead,
ReplyDeleteI don't think he would take the money because he has enough of his own money already there is no need to take it when you already have some.
ReplyDeleteOne reason could be because his personal business is international, so whatever decision he makes as far as foreign policy concerns would impact his personal investment. I think this conveys that Trump sees himself as better than others and that he doesn't need the money because he is too rich. I think that the statement Trump is making is that he is doing this for power rather than money.
ReplyDeleteI think Trump is making a statement here. Whether or not he's actually going to accept $1 a year, he's telling the public that he isn't going to put his personal agenda for moneymaking over his responsibilities as President. I like the sound of that, but I'll believe it when I see it.
ReplyDeleteI personally perceived his statement of only taking $1 as his presidential income as him flaunting what he already has and saying that the $400,000 is nothing to him. though it is true I find it to be rude to the less fortunate.
ReplyDeleteI've heard a theory that he's doing this to get some major tax cuts and other forms of compensation. Now I'm not completely certain this is true but it makes too much sense that a stingy business man would do this. Also no I dont think he's trying to make a statement.
ReplyDeleteThis decision chosen by Trump displays that he is rich enough not to take the money, and knowing him, he most likely will since he is known to have gone back on his word.
ReplyDeleteTrump is implying that he is so rich that he doesn't need anymore. However, $1 a year is exaggeration.
ReplyDeleteI believe that while trump definitely dose not need the money he is simply using this as a way to try and improve his reputation after everything it went though during the campaign, he wants to apear better to the public by coming off as a non greedy guy
ReplyDeleteTrump is saying this to prove a point. Hes basically trying to say that he's become president simply because he can, not because he needs to. He's showing that he's a successful business man and now hes president
ReplyDeleteI think trump is trying to say that he doesn't need the money. Either way he'd be rich.
