Hillary Clinton is working to clarify her economic vision to voters and differentiate her plans from Donald Trump's. The highlights of her plan are $275 billion on infrastructure spending on roads, bridges, and ports. To help pay for the plan, she'll raise taxes on the wealthy, levy an exit tax on corporations that relocate overseas. Clean energy and debt free college tuition are also part of her vision. She criticized Trump for his plans to lower taxes on the wealthy and corporations. Clinton also reemphasized her opposition to the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal with Asia that President Obama engineered in 2015.
Discussion Questions:
1. Do you like Hillary Clinton's economic proposals? Which components of her plan do you support or oppose?
2. How are Clinton and Trump's economic plans different? Which do you prefer and why?
3. Why do you think both candidates oppose the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal with Asia?
I believe that Clinton's infrastructure plan is one of the better, and safer, proposals she has as a candidate because investing and repairing bridges, roads and railways is always a necessity during each presidency, and investing that high of an amount of money into it seems like a good bridge to blue collar workers and a general plus for America. Clinton believes in supporting the building classes of the corporate workers and families rather than the trickle down economics Trump supports. Both systems have their benefits in different times of economic status. Trump's could work if the economy has a downfall and businesses need every bit of help to employ more workers. Both candidates oppose the deal partly because of the extradition of workers overseas, which both candidates verbally oppose.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with Tomislav's comment about the plan to improve infrastructure. I also believe that including clean energy and debt free college tuition in her vision is important to America's well-being, since the country will thrive for much longer if we are able to sustain a clean environment and broaden the scope of education so that more research could be put towards solutions for the energy issues that exist as well as many other issues of concern.
ReplyDeleteI agree as well with Arya and Tomislav on Hillary's infrstructure proposal because it will benefit a lot of people. I support higher taxes on the wealthy, but it is also important to recognize who exactly is considered wealthy. I think that Hillary's plan to have debt free college is also very beneficial to many parents and students that continue to pay off their student loans as they go on in life, which makes life even tougher.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Clinton, the reason for that is because there will be may changes that will benefit everyone not just some people. Hillary's and Trump's plans differ because Clinton was to raise taxes on the wealthy for a change that will benefit everyone, meanwhile Trump wants to lower taxes on the wealthy and won't really make a change that benefits everyone. Also Trump would not lower taxes on everyone which is unfair , and for that I agree with Clinton.
ReplyDeleteHer economic plans on the face of it look promising. But so did president Obama's plans as well. As always the devil is in the details. Democratic party fails to recognize what is considered to be tax on the rich and what is the result of increasing taxes on the business. In prior years democratic parties economic agenda had fostered business exodus from United States and influx of cheap foreign labor replacing the white collar jobs of Americans. Their taxes on the rich heavily impacted middle class. The Obama care tax was the biggest tax on the middle class America in recent history.Trump promises to bring the jobs back to America and insensitive cooperation's to bring the investment back to United States. Therefore creating more jobs.
ReplyDeleteI would agree that her economics plans are a little more safer and tame compared to others. Her goals are a little more mainstream than others. I like her vision of debt free college because it helps many people in America. I feel that Trump wants more freedom from the government. Hillary wants the people to have more personal freedom and equal taxes. I think the oppose the partnership because it makes the people of America pay more on taxes for necessities. Its so expensive because they have to travel the pacific ocean and therefore it will cost a lot.
