Many people have been concerned what Donald Trump’s real plans are for immigration policies. Over the course of his campaign, he has made it seem as he was going to be in favor of forced removal. According to Pence, Trump would lay out a detailed immigration plan within the next two weeks. Recently Trump has had a more soften attitude towards the immigration issue. However, we cannot deny the fact that in the past Trump has proven to be verbally violent towards Mexican immigrants. Many threats were made to build a wall, and of course force them out. Kellyanne Conway, Trump’s campaign manager, said “He is not talking about a deportation force, but he is talking about being fair and humane.” She then added, “‘He has said that, if you want to be here legally, you have to apply to be here legally,’” she added. The statement seemed to suggest that immigrants would be able to attain legal status without leaving the country, a position that conservatives call amnesty — and that Mr. Pence said was not an option.” Overall, this could easily be a cry for help in order for Trump to appeal to more people. However, it is indeed hard to say because of how Trump has acted in the past. He has clearly changed the meaning of his word more than multiple times, rather than sticking with one clear way of explaining his plans. Only time will tell.
Discussion Questions
1) Is Trump merely trying to get people to side with him, or is he really going to come up with a more humane plan for immigration?
2) Do you think more people would actually be on his side if he were to put out a detailed plan?

While Trump is extremely hostile towards Mexicans, his plans logically would simply be cracking down on laws that are already in effect, unless he plans to implement new policies, some people may be glad someone is finally enforcing those laws, so I dont think being more lenient will really affect his voters

ReplyDeleteI think that it is a ploy as with a lot of his recent changes. His views when running for the party candidate were so extreme its hard to think that he wasn't lying about them either then or now to get people on his side. I think if he put out some solid plans so we would know what he wants for the country.
ReplyDeleteIn my experience, it is quite often that politicians must not be definitive with the meaning of their statements, in order to make a more broad and general statement and to avoid them being turned against them. this is normal. most politicians however, know not to run their mouth with completely obviously unattainable promises, so they only need to minorly tweak their meanings instead of reshaping their whole view to gain support. which Donald Trump does. this shows his lack of plan and readiness to change his promises on a dime

ReplyDeleteAs seen in prior politicians campaigns they will not say the exact phrase behind the meaning in their statements, to prevent their statements to come back onto them. Many politicians know not to state off a bunch of unreachable promises to the people, so they usually change minor beliefs within their statements and not change their whole view of the situation at hand. This shows Trumps willingness to gain as many voters as he can. Yes, i do believe that more people would be on Trump's side if he were to give out a more detailed plan because there are no real limits to what he is saying right now , and it could all be to good to be true.
ReplyDeleteTrump wants people to side with him over immigration, he believes his plan is the best to get all immigrants out of here. I believe if he put his plan out there more people would support him because at least they know his plan and vote for something they want to happen
ReplyDeleteLook Trump want to deport 11 Million immigrants and now he's acting somewhat soft over that topic just to get more votes. Nothing will change what he's said in the past.
ReplyDeleteI think he is just trying to get more people to side with him. I really do not think he is trying to think of a better immigration plan. He is never sincere about anything and he has previously stated that he wants to deport thousands of immigrants. It is hard to believe anything that he says.
ReplyDeleteI believe Trumps intentions are going to be harsh toward the topic of immigration and he will do his best to get support from U.S. citizens. With this in mind, he will do what he believes is right by deporting the large sum of immigrants dwelling on U.S. soil, which personally doesn't solve much problem, especially when illegal immigrants are the ones who do the dirty work that no one else will do. What this will do is stir mass controversy and instead of Trump earning the supporters he needs, he will suffer drastically due to his ignorance.
ReplyDeleteIf Trump was to succeed with becoming President a lot of America's previous compassionate values seem like they will seize to exist. Though the president does not have much power, the amount of influence he will ooze on the country will change the way Americans think.
ReplyDeleteThe difference in subconscious though when you have the first ever African American president vs. when you have the first racist president in the 21st century is paramount for how it would affect your overall thinking about your everyday actions and general mindset over the course of his presidency. If Trump is to get elected the country will go backwards in terms of development with human relations and overall evolution as the human race and people of this planet.
ReplyDeletePart of me says he's just trying to win support in the country, but I also think he said all the bad stuff in the first place to plant fear in new people immigrating to the US illegally. If he came up with peaceful detailed plans, he would most definitely gain many more supporters.
ReplyDeleteI think that due to the unpopularity of Trumps original plan, he needs to make reforms to it if he hopes to win this election. He needs to find a way to make himself not look as racist while dealing with the immigration problem. I think that he would become a lot more popular once he does this.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Addam in saying that, if Trump was to succeed with becoming president then a lot of America's previous compassionate values seem like they will sieze to exist. Though the president does not have much power, the amount of influence that Trump with give off will change the country for sure.
ReplyDeleteWhat he wants is to get people in his side and come together to deport all of these immigrants which I find so ridiculous. He is not going to do nothing good with immigration plan at all I can guarantee you that
