Omran Daqneesh is a little boy from Syria. He was having a regular day at home until a bomb hit his neighborhood, burying everyone in rocks and dirt. He was dug out by a rescue squad and put into an ambulance, waiting for others to be found and for him to be helped. They didn't know how old this little boy was, but they labeled him as 5 years old even though his actions were actions of a younger boy. Even though all of this happened and he didn't have his family around, this little boy didn't have
any tears coming out of his eyes. Why may you ask? Because he was in complete shock. But he is not the only one. 18,598 civilians were killed in Aleppo province during the war which include 4,557 children. One rescuer said, "Every day we cover these massacres and these war crimes in Aleppo. When we go to places that have been bombed, regime planes circle around and bomb it again to kill rescue workers that are helping civilians. They kill these people who are trying to rescue people." But the problem is that it's very hard to leave Aleppo. Children's choices are either stay and have the everyday risk of being bombed, or flee and drown trying to get to a safer place. This world has completely failed Syrian people. This war has to end.
Discussion Questions:
- What are your thoughts about this war?
- What do you think the world can do to end this war?
- Do you think the world can be of more help in order to get these civilians to a safer place?
1. I personally am a big non-believer in war. War is very bad and evil per se(tm). There are these little boys and kids that are being brigaded by the bombs and its time to stop. Think about the kids of the world. The future.
ReplyDelete2. I think the world needs to send help. We need social awareness of this war which can be achieved through publicity. On the other hand we can get America to be involved and donate a bunch of weapons to end the game.
3. I think America has to step in again and bring out the big weapons and just blow everything up. Basically we need to run it down mid and get to the reconstruction part of society so we can all benefit as one world.
I truly believe that this war is pointless. No person, let alone a child, should be subjected to this type of pain. As Matthew said, children are our future, and this war is killing them. Although it is a bit tentative for the U.S. to get involved, I believe it's the best option. We would be able to send aid to these suffering people. Any type of aid will help these people. This is why refugees need to be accepted into more countries. That will provide them the safety and security that they need.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree that war is pointless and tragic. As Americans who live in a country with good education and living conditions, (compared to repressive countries likes Syria) we forget the blessings we have here. Unlike us, these children face daily bombs, drones, streets filled with debris, etc. It's not fair nor right that they go through all that they do. They're just children and innocent families trying to give their children a better future, the same thing our parents would do for us.
ReplyDeleteI think that war is just a useless tactic the government uses in order to say "Oh, we're protecting the people." Yes, but what about the others who are in the middle of the war, living innocent lives; who is protecting them? War should not be used as an excuse for not being able to protect innocent lives mush less a child as well.

ReplyDeleteI think that this war has no point, it is hurting many innocent lives and I think that they should find a way to settle this in a calmer way (like talking, and debates/discussions?), and I think that the rest of the world also needs to get involved and find a solution that will help everyone rather than injuring the innocent. One thing is to fight with those that are trained to fight like military but this is fighting with those that are innocent and not at fault for anything. They are not being protected. I think that more countries can open up to help these people and find them a safer place to live while this 'war' is going on.
ReplyDeleteI think that ending the war is Syria's own responsibility. Now the US needs to stop getting entangled with the problems of other countries and instead focus on domestic policies. I believe that the US should pull back our troops from the rest of the world and get rid of our nuclear weapons.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Victor that the U.S should not get involved and cause even more trouble than there already is. I truly believe that was in not necessary in achieving peace, as shown not only in the war in Syria but every where in the world as well.

ReplyDeleteI think that the war is pointless. Innocent people are being injured everyday and that should not be happening. I think many countries should try to help, even if that's not the best idea. There's not much we can do, but we should try and stop these horrible bombings of these innocent civilians.
ReplyDeleteI do agree that we should stop interfering with Syria and their war but I disagree with pulling all of our troops back to the US and disarming Nuclear weapons if other countries do not do the same. Having troops in other countries such as our allied countries or around the world allow our embassy to be safe and to protect diplomats and other government officials. For disarming our nuclear weapons suggested by victor it would be basically getting rid of our nuclear deterrent. Because what deters nuclear weapons from being used? its other countries that could use them as well. If the US was to disarm all of the nuclear weapons at once it would leave the US open to attack.
ReplyDeleteI dont understand why people are calling the war in Syria pointless. A civil war is not pointless.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, I think Because of America's prior intervention in the Syrian conflict, Syria is somewhat our responsibility. It would be criminal for America to just intervene and try to manipulate the politics of a certain country and then bail once situations worsen. You can argue that we've done it before, but like in Iraq we should at least attempt to provide actual aid to a country we essentially destroyed. I think America should atleast put sanctions on countries that support Bashar al-Assad, like Russia for example. America should also continue fighting ISIS but stop funding military groups like Peshmerga to do the job as funding these rebel groups has historically been a bad idea.

ReplyDeleteI hate war just in general because I believe that all conflict can be fixed by discussion. To me, war only brings destruction and chaos, and this particular case is just one example of that said devastation for this war specifically.
ReplyDeleteThis civil war has become a war, with multiple countries propping up different groups. The US...team moderate rebel: It wants Assad and ISIS gone. Last fall, President Obama made the decision to intervene militarily for the first time.
ReplyDeleteRussia...team Assad: Russia is one of Assad’s most important allies for a few reasons. One, it has a naval base in Syria that gives it access to the Mediterranean. Two, Moscow makes a lot of money from arms sales to the Syrian military. Three, it doesn’t like the idea of Western powers having their way in the region. Russia’s worked to block things from passing in the UN that might hurt the Assad regime. Iran...Team Assad: As the most powerful Shiite country in the Mideast, Iran has an interest in protecting Assad’s Shiite-run government. But Iran’s also very anti-ISIS. Turkey...Team moderate rebels. Turkey’s been working with the US to train and arm these rebels. More than one million Syrian refugees have camped out in Turkey, which is a strain on its resources. The United States and Russia can work side by side, if not together, to defeat the ISIS in Syria. The two countries must compromise and work through their differences; if the two powers stay focused, together they could help end the Syrian war.Yes. The world should demonstrate moral courage: During World War II, the U.S. turned away Jews due to security concerns. We sent shiploads back to the camps because we were scared that Nazi spies could hide in their midst (which was not an entirely unfounded concern). The lesson of the Holocaust is that we must deal with threats without rejecting our ethical obligations. We must not send those fleeing persecution back to their persecutors. The definition of moral courage is to resist allowing fear to overwhelm our humanity.
War is only about violence and destruction in my opinion. It doesn't really solve anything, and I don't understand how killing people can solve an issue. The world can come together and just stop all the violence and learn to solve issues peacefully. Right now, many people are dying from violence and explosions all around the world, but nobody is doing much about it. There's always going to be some type of war somewhere, but it is up to leaders to end the violence.

ReplyDeleteI think war is a very unnecessary action. A lot of countries seem to go into war because of miscommunications or a case of not fulfilling their agreements. War only serves the purpose of destroying lands, ruining economies and causing danger to the lives of innocent people. I think the rest of the world can definitely do more to try and end wars between countries.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I'm unaware with the relationship between Syria and the US I believe the war in Sryia must be taken upon their own hands. Being involved with others own affairs is a great responsibility taken by the US which I shown by the tragedy of Rwanda. The only way for war to end is for the Syrian government to step in itself and take action. As regards to the civilians it is very tragic that children must go through events such as this at a young age.
ReplyDeleteI think this war is an absolute mess. First of all, kids are dying everyday and no one is doing anything about it. People also can't leave their homes because they are feared to be killed but they risk staying inside because they could be bombed. I think this war could end by a stronger power try to get slightly involved and take down the people that are attacking. I think the world could take some people out of the area.

ReplyDeleteI think this war needs to be stopped now. There are too many people dying and is having a negative impact not only in Syria but to other countries too. I think that the only way to stop this war is a bigger war. I know that war is not a good thing but it is needed to stop chaos like this. I think the world can help by accepting refugees and aiding the people with food and supplies.
ReplyDeleteThe little boy was shocked and no one was there to even comfort and calm him , this war is getting worse and worse and no one seems to care to stop is or do something about it . This kid is an example of where our world is heading to , i hope kids around the world will never go through what this kid went through.
ReplyDeleteWar is just a useless job, like why go to another country and kill there people. Let the people that live there and let them take care of that, we have our own business. We don't need this type of thing going on
