Advice to Melania Trump

Use this link

In recent years, there has been an astronomical increase in cyberbullying, thanks to social media. The effects of bullying has led to numerous deaths. Bullying that used to happened in school is now initiating a new era on social platforms such as Facebook and Snapchat. Despite the all the hate and disagreement from this election, Melania Trump is a stark contrast in that she plans to promote unity. While Michelle Obama chose to focus on healthy eating, Melania Trump chooses to focus on cyberbullying, something she has dealt with especially with the duality of being a model and Donald Trump's wife. Some advice for Melania is for her to focus on the positive, teach kids that hurting the attacker will only continue the bullying cycle, and increase social-emotional programs that will help students recognize their own emotions.

Discussion Questions:

 1) Do you agree with Melania's efforts or do you think that she should focus her attention elsewhere?

2) We all have seen or experience bullying in various forms. How do you think bullying, specifically cyberbullying, should be targeted?

3) Do you believe social platforms should allow for censorship of any type of bullying?

  1. I think Melania Trump is taking the right approach because we see a lot of cyber bullying nowadays. Cyber bullying isn't very easy to work with because people will plead their constitutional right to free speech. Censorship will not really do much because if something shows up as censored, you will know that said person who was censored has tried to do something horrible, then they will be targeted instead which defeats the purpose of bullying

  2. Okay, this is a controversial statement, but I honestly believe cyber-bullying is the biggest First-World Problem in our nation. Sure, physical or verbal bullying in person is a serious issue that should addressed. But cyberbullies can be easily blocked and ignored online. If you avoid any social media sites, then it's guaranteed that you won't be cyber-bullied. Unfortunately, people are so attached to their lives online that they can't even fathom the notion of deleting their social media accounts. So, Melania Trump should focus on a more serious issue, like Michelle Obama's campaign with fighting against obesity.

  3. I do agree with Melania's effort in trying to stop cyber-bullying but I think it really wont do much since people all around the world have the capacity to stop it. Like Natalie said people have the capacity to stop and avoid social media in order to stop cyber-bulling but people now a days are very closed minded about things and they dont pay attention that they can stop it by avoiding it.

  4. I definitely prefer that the focus be on cyber bullying rather than food choice, because what people eat should ultimately be up to them where as people do not have the right to bully others in any form of the word.

  5. I think her focus on cyber-bullying is great and since her father is the new elected president I believe that she could have a great impact on this subject. I also think that people are smart enough to definitely realize bullying is not a joke.

  6. I think that it's good that she is focusing on cyberbullying, but she should have a plan. For example, make sure young people know that in no way will bullying stop if they become bullies themselves. They should no that there is always a better way to deal with bullying. Also, I think there should be censorship on what people post online.

  7. I think it is a good idea for her to focus on cyberbullying since it happens to be very present in today's society. I agree with Ashley though; she should walk into this issue with a plan

  8. I think it is very important for the First Lady elect to take a strong stand on an issue that she believes in. She now has the opportunity to influence people's conduct positively if she makes the right moves in her campaign against cyberbullying.

  9. I do believe that Melania's focus on helping solve the problem that is cyber-bullying is necessary and good. However, I hope that she is doing this with the intent is really helping and not just saying this to gain the people's trust and to make people like her.

  12. I believe that Melania is putting good effort on focusing in cyberbullying because it is correct that there has been many deaths due to cyberbullying. The problem would be is that since this problem is mostly amount teenagers, they won't really care about what is being taught and they will take it as something else they learned and forget about it and not care about the damages of cyberbullying.

  13. I think that Melania is doing good by trying to focus on combating the cyberbullying issue because it is currently something that many people have to deal with. Especially since she has dealt with this issue firsthand, I think that she really knows how it feels and will try her hardest to try and eliminate it. I don't know how it's gonna work or what she's going to do, but I hope it works!

  14. Her focus on cyber bullying is great, it will help out a lot of teens out there suffering through that. The bullies should be punished in some way, it should be targeted in a serious manner. I hope shes doing it in the intention of really helping and to not do it to gain respect in america.

  15. I think focusing on cyber bullying is a great choice because a lot of kids out age have to go through it everyday and it's time for someone toke action. I think it should be targeted by speaking to students and punishing thoes who bully so that they know it's wrong.

  16. I believe that this will put a positive mark for her and for this election. It's good that she is focusing her efforts on helping rid of a very long problem. This will put the bullies on blast and will hopefully decrease or rid of cyberbulling.

  17. I think it's beneficial for our future first lady to focus on an issue like cyberbullying especially because it's a prevalent issue in our society today. It has caused some tragic and heartbreaking deaths, and we should target this issue by educating young kids.

  18. I support Melania's focus on cyberbullying is important. Cyberbullying is an important issue that is prevalent in our society because of the rise in social media. It is necessary that we focus on this issue because it is affecting the youth in a negative way.

  19. I do support Melania's effert on stopping cyber-bullying. seeing as she has experienced it in her life, it must be a prominent problem in the US. Working on this problem is a very noble cause.

  20. Her focus on cyberbullying is important because now that we are in the technology age, the things people say get around a lot faster and it is really affecting kids our age so I think it is good that she is taking action

  22. although i agree with melania that cyberbullying is bad I dont think it is a problem that can be properly addressed unless censorship is put in place. On top of that I dont think that cyber bullying is a national or global issue that needs serious attention like education or health.

  23. It's a good and relevant topic, but I can hardly commend Melania for this effort. If she wants to help stop bullying and hate maybe she should stop supporting her husband's actions. Despite all his bullying of minorities, women, etc. Melania still stands by him. It's hard to send a message to kids when the person holding the most powerful position in the world is literally a giant contradiction to every moral they are taught.

  24. i believe her intentions are good and bullying is a serious problem that needs more attention and efforts . if she focusing on this and trying to do something about it she will get a lot of support and respect for it.

  25. I believe that her idea of aiding in the stop against cyberbully is great, however the stop of bullying cannot be truly stopped. Like racism, bullying is just in human nature, it can be suppressed but sooner or later it will emerge once more. Although she would like to help this form of bullying, it would be tough for her to pursue this goal.

  26. I personally share some insight with Natalie. I don't have any social media accounts, have no need for them, and therefore experience none of the heightened cyber bullying affecting millions today. HOWEVER, taking into consideration the absence of social media will never occur, this, like fighting obesity, is ONE attempt to help make a safer culture for those who freely choose to partake in social media. Those who choose to eat poorly can at least have factual efforts in trying to inform them of their decisions. Likewise, Melania is trying to create a safer, more aware environment in social media, which is a realistic approach today.

  27. I dont think she will be able to maintain her job as first lady. Having to stay to her husband script it seems like that she only know how compliment her husband. And it's ironic that her theme is bullying while her husband has been harassing immigrants.

  28. I believe that that she is focusing her attention on something very important. However, bullying and cyber-bullying will forever be a thing. There is no way to get rid of it or make it better because there are always going to be people out there who will come after you in some way. I also think it is foolish to censor anyone on the internet. Anyone who thinks that is highly idiotic. I believe you should be able to say some of the most horrible things on the internet. Do I agree with them? No I do not agree with the bad things people say on the internet, but it's going to happen and creating safe spaces on the internet is very stupid to say the least. You can easily block people on social media platforms in order to get rid of them. At the end of the day they are just words on the internet from people who wouldn't say that stuff in front of your face. If you choose to be on social media then you are giving people the opportunity to go off on you no matter what. If you don't like it then get off the internet. Do not censor people just because you can't handle the evil people on the internet. Safe spaces should not be on the internet at all. Either block or delete your account.

  29. I do agree with Melania's efforts. Cyber bullying in my eyes cannot be stopped or cut down, its inevitable. I do believe social platforms should allow for censorship of any type of bullying.

  30. I think that she has the right mindset, however it is most likely impossible to stop cyber bullying. She should probably focus her attention elsewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  31. She definitely has her mindset in a good place but like Amanda said it's technically like impossible to stop cyber bullying because that's something that she can't control herself

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think Amanda has a big issue she is about to face. Cyber bullying is a huge issues because of how many people use the internet. Can she do it? i have my doubts. Should she focus on something else? probably.

  33. I agree with Melania's efforts in bringing awareness of cyber bullying. Bullying and cyber bullying is a serious topic and there needs to be something done. I do think it will be incredibly hard for her to get the positive attention she seeks for such a serious topic since she is Trump's wife. But, I do applaud her efforts in trying to make a positive change in the country, and world in general.

  34. I feel that Melania has the right mindset in addressing cyber bullying. I think she definitely has good intentions, but everything is always easier said than done, so cyber bullying may not come to a complete end, but she could put her efforts in lessening its impact.

  35. I think that focusing on an issue like cyberbullying is very important because it has become a large problem in our society today. I think that censorship of bullying should be allowed because it could lessen the amount of cyberbullying that goes on and it tells kids that it won' be tolerated.

  36. I think that everybody has had something to focus on and if she thinks that this is something that should be focused on then why stop her? I think that cyber bullying should be targeted because people like to say things online and not face to face so there is more online. I mean. it is freedom of speech.

  37. I agree with Ricardo because everyone has something to focus on and if that's one thing that people focus on. Then, why should that stop her? cyber bulling should be addressed because it can do the same damage if it was in person
