Donald Trump started off his campaign with a strong opinion on immigration. He started off with wanting mass deportations, temporary ban on Muslim immigration, and a wall along the border with Mexico paid by Mexico. Trump has stated that there will be a wall built along the Mexican border and insists in saying that Mexico will pay for it through increased border-crossing fees and NAFTA tariffs. Some of Trump's surrogates want to add technology to this wall to track and prevent illegal immigration. In addition, Trump said he wanted to deport millions of immigrants but recently in one of his speeches he declined to answer whether he was going to take this action by force.
Questions:
1. What was Trump's position on immigration back then, what is his position now and why do you think it changed?

Trump has had a strong opinion on immigration and I feel like he did this to seek attention. I feel like he changes his mind because now that he has everyone's attention, he will give the people what they want.
ReplyDeleteI believe his opinion changed because he realized that he would not legally be able to do all these things that he does want to do. Also I think he realizes that if he followed what he said, his morals would look very bad.
ReplyDeleteI think that at first he was open to talking about immigration, but now I feel like hes backing away from it, not because his ideas are changing but because he realized that he might be losing votes if he keeps talking.
ReplyDeleteI liked Donald Trump because he had strong opinions in just about anything, for example, his policies on immigration, employment, national debt, and education. He made people believe that if they elect him as president, he could bring real change. I believe that Donald Trump already controls a vast number of loyal Republican supporters. He should simply be himself instead of making changes to his policies to impress his enemies. This action will only lose him support. His supporters will no longer believe that he is a strong president, which is one of his most important traits that brought him all the way to the finals against Hillary Clinton.
ReplyDeleteHis opinion changed throughout time because he believes that immigration is unfair. He changes his mind through time and wants to have a stronger protection with illegal immigration.
ReplyDeleteHe wanted to send everyone back to their homelands. He changed his mind probably cause he wants more people to vote for him in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteTrump has been running for president for 14 months. He has been known, all along, for his harsh position on immigration issue, such as mass deportations, a temporary ban on Muslim immigration and a border wall paid for by Mexico. Trumps wanted to build a wall across the Southern border and wanted Mexico to pay for the wall. However, his positions on immigration seem to have changed. Recently he said he was open to “softening” on his positions, explaining that his immigration standards will be “very, very tough,” and yet, they could also, potentially, allow for “a softening,” perhaps to gain Hispanic support. Trump has also shifted his position over Muslim immigration ban. He was condemned by many in his party, including his future running mate, Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana, for calling for the Muslim immigration ban. His focus is now more on preventing Syrian refugees from entering the country.Trump’s “flip-flops” are frequent on this issue. Public need to hold Trump accountable for his insults, because at this point, it doesn’t really matter what Trump decides to say his immigration position is. We need to have very, very tough standards for those who want to come into the Oval Office.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Donald Trump started with an opinion and plan that knew would catch everyone's attention because he was offending different race groups and as a candidate that looks very bad. Trump is changing his opinions to get more votes and sound really fair to everyone so he gets the most votes, but what was said before regarding immigration and the wall will not be forgotten because he stayed with that idea throughout most of his campaign.
ReplyDeleteHe used to want to eliminate immigrants from this country, and doing this built a lot of hate around him because of his unpopular opinion. He changed his opinion because he wanted to gain more votes from the people and increase his chances of winning the election
ReplyDeleteTrump's initial stance on immigration was one of intense control over the number of people who could enter the nation. As a president, however, he most likely initially thought that having tight borders would be a benefit to this nation. Many other developed nations, such as the swiss for example, have a very very tight cap on their immigration numbers and from where they come. Trump wants the immigration quota to be controlled and in a universal fashion for everyone; through the legal terms. However, seeing how unpopular that became, he changed to meet a changing view on him which could be for the better or for the worse of his support.
ReplyDeleteHis position was to deport all illegal immigrants, and now he realized that this propositioning cannot be done.
ReplyDeleteHis initial position was having extreme control over immigration. He wanted to deport millions of immigrants and put a ban on Muslim entering the country. He has probably now realized that no one will vote for him because it is a very unpopular opinion, he has changed his view so more people would support him.
ReplyDeleteHis position before any of these things was to deport all and or any immigrants and to build a "wall" of some sorts. I think right now he is bluffing, so he can wrack in those final votes. This will probably lock in his position as president.
ReplyDeleteTrumps original position upon immigrants living in the US was that he wanted to remove every single illegal immigrant. His views later change as the presidential campaign progresses, being his view alter to become more at ease with this issue.
ReplyDeletetrump in the beginning was really enforcing his " wall dream" he did not want any immigrant at all but now hes lowering his voice opinion on that because he knows it will effect him in the way people support him.
ReplyDeleteHe was very insisted about the wall in the beginning but think he saw it was affecting him in a negative way.
ReplyDeleteHe was very insisted about the wall in the beginning but think he saw it was affecting him in a negative way.
ReplyDeleteTrumps sudden change of opinion in regards to building a wall is simply because it was an unpopular opinion negatively affected his chances of gaining votes
