The 2016 presidential election has presented us with more presidential transparency than we have ever seen in the modern era. This basically means that the general public has very little knowledge about the presidential candidates. This starts with Hillary Clinton's health status, which continues to be extremely unclear. This past Sunday, September 11, Clinton fainted at a public 9/11 memorial event. She blamed it on dehydration and overheating, but was soon diagnosed with pneumonia. As Clinton's unknown health conditions may seem bad enough, Trump's current ideals are far less known. By "departing decades of tradition," Trump has opted out of releasing his tax returns. By doing this, he is hiding key information about his investments and financial interests. Both candidates have refused to travel with a crew of security behind them in efforts to emphasize their courage for their actions.
1. Do you feel comfortable with the fact that both presidential candidates are showing an extreme lack of transparency?
2. Do you think Clinton's health will affect her chances of winning the election?
3. Would you feel safe voting for somebody who refuses to release their tax returns?
I feel that the lack of transparency is one of the reasons this election is one of the most intense elections in recent years. Knowing the financial status of our candidates is quite important because it gives a good idea on how they will balance problems in our country.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Zachary because the lack of transparency made this years election very interesting and made it different from other elections. In my own opinion I don't think that Clinton's health will not affect her at all if she really wants to win this election, if she really wants it that will not stop her

ReplyDeleteI do feel with the lack in transparency of the two presidential candidates, it does not show much potential for the future of this nation. If both feel it is necessary to state less about their selves in hopes to become president, all it does is hurt their campaign in the long run. American voters can feel skeptical in voting for another candidate, or even not vote at all.
ReplyDeleteThis lack of transparency from both presidential candidates is quite unsettling. I agree with Luke; some American voters will most likely not vote because both Clinton and Trump are not being honest about themselves.

ReplyDeleteNatalie makes a good point. How can we believe what any of them are saying if they cant even be honest with themselves.
ReplyDeleteThese are some of the least trusted candidates of all time, and their secrecy only adds to that fact. if neither candidate feels secure enough about their candidacy to actually be public beyond ad campaigns, i do not trust them to be open or trusted as the president
ReplyDeleteI think that Hilary's health will affect her Presidency because she needs to be in good shape to be able to run this country and she can't if she's unhealthy.
ReplyDeleteHilary will be alright she'll get better she's got the money to fix her problems and i dont think her health issues will affect her presidency.
ReplyDeleteI do believe that Hilary's health will become a problem because the amount of stress that comes with being the president, does not allow much chance to rest and become better.
ReplyDeleteI think Hillarys health is a big issue but honestly comparing her to Trump, shes the better candidate (no pun intended).

DeleteI agree with Zachary. The lack of transparency is definitely what has made this run for presidency so controversial. I don't think a president should just throw there whole life out for the public, but if they have to I feel like they shouldn't sugar coat it and it shouldn't be that big of a deal. No I don't think Clintons house will effect anything. Yes, just because I feel like somebody's tax returns is a vary small variable in a rather large equation.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the idea that the lack of transparency is a little unsettling- I feel like a lot of this election has been especially controversial just because there are so many issues behind the scenes.
ReplyDeletethe lack in transparency of the two presidential candidates and Knowing the financial status of our candidates because neither candidates feel secure enough about their candidacy to actually be public beyond ad campaigns
ReplyDeleteThe lack of transparency is a bit weird, but I feel that Hillary's health shouldn't cause a change in the elections.
ReplyDeleteI do not feel comfortable with the candidates not opening up to us and I feel that if they do not open up to us about their health then what else will they not open up to us about? I do not believe that it will affect her campaign. I would not vote for him even if he did release his tax returns.
ReplyDeleteI think her health would affect her chances, because if people know that she's ill, people may not vote for her.
ReplyDeleteI think her health would affect her chances, because if people know that she's ill, people may not vote for her.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that Hillary's health issues should have any effect on who will win the presidential election. She is a strong women who keeps her personal problems away from the public eye. I also would not feel safe voting for someone who doesn't want to release tax returns.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe that Hillary Clinton’s health will affect her chances at winning the presidency because everyone gets sick, and she has access to the best doctors available. I do not believe people will not vote for her solely because she is sick, I think it understandable that she is sick seeing that she never stops and she always keeps going. Clinton is probably extremely worn down, and it is inevitable to get sick; however, because pneumonia is quite dangerous, Clinton needs to be extremely careful and recover nicely.
ReplyDeleteHillary is a real person just like everyone else. She gets sick sometimes, just like everybody else, and it wont affect her competency as a person. She will still be able to do the Presidents job even if she has a period of time of not feeling well during her campaign.
ReplyDeleteNo. I really think transparency is very important; a candidate should not be considered for the presidency if s/he cannot be straight forward about the issues. On the other hand, I don’t think Clinton’s health will affect her chances of winning the election, particularly after her doctor’s recent announcement she is recovering from pneumonia and is doing well. Nevertheless, Trump’s lack of transparency in refusing to release his tax returns is inexcusable. He claims that he cannot release his tax returns because he is under audit. The IRS, on the other hand, has said that audits do not prevent an individual from disclosing their financial information.
ReplyDeleteRealistically I believe president transparency can be very important in some cases. I belive Hillary telling the truth about her health is very important because It could greatly affect her ability to be an effective president in a variety of ways. In addition to that if her condition is serious, it could make the V.P. election much more important. As sad as it may be, the president can't take sick days off
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion transparency is an issue but not as big of an issue as a cover up. Health issues are a personal matter and if they are not disclosed its okay and its nothing to lie about. Taxes are a personal matter as well and for someone like Trump with very complex tax strategy nondisclosure would prevent unnecessary questioning of his business endeavors. I feel that both candidates have a lot to hide from public eye and probably for a good reason. One big differenciator is a perception of truthfulness. At present time I do not believe that Hilary Clinton is truthful. I do believe that Trump with all his negatives is truthful.
ReplyDeleteI feel that the dishonesty from both candidates is what makes the election transparent and it's not a good thing. If Hillary loses it isn't going to be because she is sick, people get sick it's a part of life.
ReplyDeleteI believe that both candidates are at a disadvantage due to their lying and being secretive. Their lack to be transparent is alarming because it makes it seem as though they have something to hide. However, everyone gets sick so for Clinton to "hide" that from the public is not a big deal because she was most likely trying to get better before she had to stop campaigning. I believe that both candidates might benefit from being truthful, but there is also probably a reason as to why they aren't disclosing everything in their life, and that is because it is private. (As a president though, tax returns should not really be private considering you have a lot of decisions to make that could either hurt or help the entire country.)
ReplyDeleteThe article states that pneumonia is a very common disease and is easily treatable, so I have no issue with Clinton's health or age; same for Trump. However, what I am very most worried about is Trump's secrecy as Shaye mentioned above. The release of tax returns are utilized as a way for candidates to instill public trust because tax returns are personal. However, Trump's lack of willingness to release this information, although not a major factor in his road to presidency, provokes a sense of uncertainty and reliability from the public. In this case, I do believe that Clinton is less transparent than Trump; however this should not be the case. In the running for presidency, both candidates should be ready to publicly release persona information because part of the campaign demands the urgency to instill crucial public trust.
ReplyDeletei do no think that clintons health won't affect her chances winning the election, because she is still going to her conferences, and meetings to try and win the election. I wouldn't feel safe without knowing what my president is doing, because for all all know she is in debt, or into illegal stuff
ReplyDeleteObviously the lack of transparency with our candidates is an issue that no one is comfortable with. I dont think Hillary's health is going to affect her chance at winning or losing because its not like a simple lung infection is going to make Trump seem like a better option. On top of that Trumps refusal to release tax returns is more concerning than Hillary's pneumonia because it is a reflection of Trumps integrity and liability as a U.S. citizen and a president.
ReplyDeleteI believe the the lack of transparency that our candidates have is something everyone is uncomfortable with. I do not believe that Hillary's illness will affect her chances of winning the presidency. No because no one is held accountable to do so.

ReplyDeleteI do believe that they are at a disadvantage due to their lack of transparency because it causes the voters to not trust either of them fully. I do not believe that Clinton's health will affect her winning the election.

ReplyDeleteI believe that since Clinton's health is not that good that it's going to bring some of the voters to not vote for her, but if her voters are loyal supporters I believe that she can win.

ReplyDeleteAs both candidates are the two least popular presidential candidates ever, anything negative will affect the polls. Clinton and Trump are both on a level of corruption in business and in politics. The lack of transparency, as said before, will cause further lack of trust and disdain for the candidates.
ReplyDeleteI think both candidates have their flaws, and no I do not trust them since they are not transparent. I do think Clinton's health will have an impact on her results. More importantly, it is extremely odd as to why Trump will not release his tax returns.
ReplyDeleteThe lack of transparency concerns most citizens who are trying to vote because without information, it may lead citizens to feel unconnected with the candidates. I don't think Clinton's health will affect the votes because once a voter has their mind set on a candidate, health would not greatly impact their beliefs. I'm not sure how I feel about Trump's refusal of publicizing his tax returns. I feel that he has a right to keep it to himself, but it does create concern and mistrust for the voters.

ReplyDeleteI believe that there is a widespread lack of information about the candidates, but that is related to information which in the past has been made public. The candidates have a right to keeping private things private, but one's tax returns and health status have traditionally been known. Keeping these things under closed doors is the choice of the candidates, but only at the risk of the public image. But even so, FDR had polio and was restricted to a wheelchair during his presidency and not many had known of such due to a fear of seeming like a weak leader.
ReplyDeleteHillary Clinton is very healthy and its all just a conspiracy made up by that "alt-right" groups that are perpetuating memes and racist frogs to discredit the value of Hillary's political agenda. I'm with her per se(tm). How about we deflect and talk about Trump's tax returns hmmmmmm?!?! Hillary Clinton is the most reliable person that will make our nation safe again.
ReplyDeleteHer health is a serious condition so it may affect her votes. I mean if people were smart they would not vote for her anyways. #KanyeWest2020

ReplyDeleteI do believe that both candidates do a have their flaws as previously stated. In this case, if one is truly dedicated to voting for their certain party. I think that something as little as Hillary's health shouldn't stop one from voting for the political candidate who they agree most with.
ReplyDeletePersonally I think Clinton's health would effect her elections in the outcomes that are yet to occur for the reason that if she still tries to talk among the people despite her current state then that would greatly display her perseverance. Also, I would not vote for Clinton if she would not like to reveal her tax returns, but it is her right to privacy if she would not like to share that to he public.
ReplyDeleteAs others have said, I think that the lack of transparency is what has made this election so intense and concerning to the public because they know so little about the people that are trying to run the country. I do not think that Hillary's health will effect her chances of winning the election because pneumonia is curable and not a permanent thing that would greatly impact her candidacy or anyone's views on her.
ReplyDeleteI think everyone would agree that the presidential candidates' lack of transparency makes people uncomfortable because it's best to know more about the individual that is going to be the leader of your country. Clinton's health should not make an impact on her chances of becoming elected unless she is in critical conditions and if it poses a large threat to her ability to lead our country.
ReplyDeleteThe lack of transparency has made this election especially controversial because of the many issues discovered behind the scenes.
