Without apology, Trump Now Says:'Obama Was Born In' The U.S.

http://www.npr.org/2016/09/16/494231757/without-apology-trump-now-says-obama-was-born-in-the-u-s

On Friday, Donald Trump acknowledged for the first time that President Obama was born in the United States, ending his long history of stoking unfounded doubts about the nation’s first African American president but also seeking to falsely blame Democratic rival Hillary Clinton for starting the rumors. What makes Donald Trump such a singular figure — in modern politics and, perhaps, ever — is his refusal to take ownership of the outrageous things he has said and done. Not only does Trump refuse to apologize, he blames others for his own actions. There must be 10 hours of video of Trump, ranting about Obama not being an American citizen; even claiming that he was sending a team to Hawaii to look into it. Now Trump says Secretary Clinton's camp started it.

1)      Who do you believe started the rumor or doubt about President Obama’s birth place? Do you believe the doubt was justified?
2)      What are your thoughts about Trump’s refusal to apologize? Do you see that as a measure of his strength as a leader?
3)      Would you like your kids to be like Donald Trump? Is he a role model? The guy who refuses to apologize, who can’t admit he’s wrong, who blames others for his own actions and can’t take ownership for his own actions.

  1. I think that the President should be able to recognize their mistakes and apologize instead of putting the blame on everyone other than their self. This is a concerning factor about Donald Trump as Americans consider him to be the next president.

  2. I don't think it is necessary to uno who started the rumor because its not that important. I believe Trump is being childish with not apologizing to the president which makes it hard to trust him. No i wouldn't want my kids to be liked Donald Trump, personally I don't think he's a role model but for others he might be and i respect that.

  3. I feel like all the people that did not want him to be president. Trump is just so mean and I feel like he is just trying to cause problems and I defiantly see it as a weakness.I would forsure not want my kids to be like Trump, he is no role model in my opinion.

  4. The simple reason that people do not believe that President Obama is from America is because he is not white. This doubt it absolutely not justified, and it was a ridiculous claim to make from the start. Trump's refusal to apologize reveals that Trump is actually the opposite of a good leader. A good leader takes responsibility for his mistakes and doesn't blame others.

  5. The rumor that Obama was not born in the United State was a hot topic back in 2008. People did not believe he was born here because he was not white and his grandmother said he was born in Kenya. His grandmother does not speak English and the translator messed up the translation and said that his grandmother said he was born in Kenya. This started a huge controversy. Trumps refusal of an apology shows what kind of person he is. He is not nice and does not care about anyone but himself. I would not like anyone to be like Donald Trump. He is a disgusting person and says very horrible things.

  6. Trump's refusal to apologize only demonstrates his child-like and immature self. Instead of being a responsible adult and taking responsibility for his actions, he makes it worse by choosing to place the blame on others, easily showing that he isn't fit to be a good leader nor president.

  7. Trump is immature and most of us already know that so it is expected of him not to apologize. Unfortunately it is of no surprise. I'm not sure who started the rumor though.
I would not like my kids to be like Donald Trump, that would be disgusting.

  8. Trump's refusal to apologize illustrates how he would not be a good candidate because he is unwilling to apologize or take into consideration other opinions. He is a person who thinks he is always right which illustrates how he will not listen to the opinions of the people if they differ from his opinions. He most definitely is not a role model and I would not want my children to be like him. I would want them to be more open minded and see how other people think.

  9. I think for Trump, it is a step in the correct direction. If he is able to admit he was wrong in the past, I think that he can look back on some of the poor decisions that he has made and reform what needs to be reformed.

  11. The doubt of Obama being born here wasn't justified but Trump, like Hayden said, is going in the right direction. Trump should be able to accept the fact he was wrong and he should look back on the low decided ideas he based his thoughts on.

  12. It is good that Trump is admitting his mistakes from the past but I still think he is an idiot for saying it in the first place. I don't know why he would think this other than the fact that he is just racist.

  13. I think that this is a step in the right direction for Trump. On the other hand, their might be other reasoning as to why he is doing this. One might be for him to change th mind of others and their outlook on him, and the other is to simply gain supporters for the election to ensure a win. I personally think that this statement doesn't automatically take away from all the rue things hes said to people.

  14. I defenetly think that trump is the one who started these rumors, just because i think hes known for starting a lot of rumors. Hes also known for not liking other people. I think his refusal to apologize shows hes weak and immature because everyone knows obama was born in the US. Otherwise, he wouldn't be president. I do not wish my future children will be anything like trump. I think hes a disgrace to all humanity. And I do nottttt think he would be a good president.

  16. Trump is probably started the rumor because he likes to start trouble. Trump has no bearing on how to actually run a country. He is clearly a racist.

  17. I think Trump started this rumor because he does not agree with the principals and laws Obama has set up. Not only that, but because Trump has finally realized how much his statement has actually affected his votes he is now taking it back. But even so, the damage has been done and Trump does not even have the decency to apologize to Obama and the American citizens for starting such a lie.

  18. Trump should apologize for Obama , as long as he proved he was wrong about his doubts and attacks. Thats what everybody should do once they discover they made wrong to others

  19. I guess its kind of okay for him to finally admit that Obama was born in the US, but why is he saying this so late? Why is he apologizing close to election day? I'm not sure who started the rumor though.

  20. I think the rumor was started by people who were just against Obama in order to give him a bad name. Trump refusing to apologize is not surprising because he has a pride issue that drives him to be the way he is. I would not like the future of America to be like Trump because there will be people who will always think that they themselves are right and they will be unable to agree with others.

  21. I think Obama was born in the US. Trump should take some responsibility for his actions rather than ignore or blame others for it. Trump will say anything to get attention.

  22. I believe that Trump's refusal to apologize foreshadows that after he becomes president he will take aggressive measures against domestic terrorism and law enforcement and offend millions of people and never be apologetic about it.

  23. i would not like my kids to be like donald trump and who cares if Obama was born here or not.

  24. Due to his lack of an apology, it can only mean that he will be a ruthless and non-forgiving leader if he becomes president. The rumor may have initially started from those who opposed him. It may have been an attempt for them to kick Obama off the ballot, but it has obviously become a line that Trump has come back to. He has been known to ask "where is his birth certificate?". Acknowledging that Obama was in fact born in the U.S. is a good step in the right direction, but the lack of apology makes it an obvious publicity tactic just to receive more votes.

  25. it should not really be surprising at this point that Donald Trump is a pig. He acts like a tantrum-throwing child who eventually gets scolded and says "Well she did it first, so its okay for me to do it" whether she actually did. His boorishness and utter childishness is unbecoming of someone as a president and the fact that he has become so popular makes me ashamed of my country at times.

  26. I think that Trump refusing to apologize for saying that the president wasn't born in the United States shows how stubborn he is. He refuses to take the fall for something he did. He won't own up to what he said and do we really need someone dealing with out foreign policy who is like Donald Trump.

  27. As a someone who has the potential spot for next president of the United States, Trump should hold himself more accountable for the mistakes he has made, and publicly apologize to those that he has wronged. If he does win the election, then he needs to be more responsible and know that he will have a lot of influence in our country. This includes knowing when he is wrong, and taking the right actions when he is.

  28. I wouldn't put the blame on any of the current presidential candidates for starting a rumor that Obama wasn't born in the united states. This rumor emerged before Obama was even elected in 2008, so it's been circulating and captivating people for some time. I think that putting attention on this allegation, Trump is just looking for another way to discredit the Democratic party.

  29. The rumor was not justified. Although anyone could have started the rumor, Trump continuously brought it up and made a big deal about. Trump refusing to apologize just further shows how childish and unfit he is to be the president. Even though he acknowledges that Obama was born in the U.S. is probably for him to gain the votes of people who support Obama. Trump is definitely not a role model and not someone that people should look up to.

  30. I do not believe that the rumor was justified. Like Brittany stated, anyone could have started the rumor, but it is those who continuously tell and spread the rumor who are truly at fault. Trump continuously said that President Obama was not born in the U.S.. However, his decision to finally acknowledge that Obama was born in the U.S. is a stunt so that he can gain the votes of those who are still on the fence and believed that Trump was just a tinny bit too outrageous.

  32. I also dont believe the rumor was justified the fact that he cant apologize or doesn't want to just shows how stubborn of a person he is and for that I do not believe hes a role model at all .
