On Saturday, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump visited Great Faith Ministries International in Detroit. Despite him being unpopular with Black voters, he was treated with respect. He even wore a prayer shawl that Bishop Wayne T. Jackson, the church's pastor, gave him. After saying that the Black communities in the US are full of crime and poverty, Trump says that he cares about making their lives better. In relation to Trump's visit to church, Trump wishes for the nation to turn back to Christian heritage. After visiting the Church, Trump and former presidential nominee Ben Carson visited Ben Carson's childhood home and spoke with the current owner of the home, Felicia Reese, possibly for gaining support from the Black community.
Questions:
1. Do you think Trump really wishes to help the Black community, or is he only saying that to get support?
2. Does Trump really wish to make the country look to Christianity?
I don't think Trump really wants to help the black community I feel like he's doing this because he realized in order to win the election he needs more votes and this is was an attempt to appeal to this huge group of voters.
ReplyDeleteI think it was really honorable for the black community to treat Donald Trump with respect even though Trump has continuously dissed the black community. Not only that, I believe that Donald Trump does not even want to really help the black community. Trump has realized that his any actions are wants causing him to lose many votes that is why he was making himself look better then how he really is.
ReplyDeleteTo me, it is very clear that Trump is using the black community, specifically this opportunity to the black church, just for political benefits. In the article, it states that Trump's platform on social issues has changed many times, so therefore, it makes easier for voters to distinguish his desperate campaign actions, making it difficult for him to obtain votes. Just before this, Donald Trump went to Mexico City to lure in hispanic voters. Now, this is a striking contrast compared to his accusations made from earlier in the campaign. If I were a potential voter, I would want for nominees to have a solidified platform with little to no changes at all. This kind of cemented ideas help voters to really understand what is truly best for the country and what is not. Candidates need to stand by for what they believe in, not what they SHOULD believe in in order to win the election.
ReplyDeleteI think Donald Trump has started to realize his rights and wrongs and has caused him to lose many votes, because of that I think he is trying to now convince the black community that he is trying to help them, even though he has discriminated them.
ReplyDeleteI believe Trump is only trying to get support due to the fact hes low in the polls. To this point hes trying to get as much support as he can from everybody.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what Trump's intentions are; I'm not even sure why he wants to be President. I definitely don't think that Trump's original plan involved helping the Black communities. He has only recently been trying to target Black voters because he most likely feels like this will help him obtain the win.
ReplyDeleteI think that Donald Trump is just trying to get more votes at this point honestly I think he would do anything to gain votes. I do not believe that he is trying to make our country look to Christianity because he doesn't express the same views or morals that Christians do.
ReplyDeleteI honestly think the only reason behind Donald Trump going to a black church because he hardly has any african american supporters. I don't think he wants to go he just wants to get more support. I hope he doesn't want everyone to follow christianity because he would be taking away our rights and not following the constitution.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Trump is only doing this to gain more votes, he really isn't doing this because he wants to hes doing this because he needs to. With all honesty Trump is such a big old show because firstly he disrespects the Latino community as well as the black community and then he tries to go off to Mexico and then a black church to make himself look good with people.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe that Trump is genuine about what he is saying. I think he is just saying it to gain the voters in the Black community that he was lacking and promote himself.

ReplyDeleteI think Trump's outreach to the black community is a very presidential and is only being perpetuated as a misnomer because of the corrupt media. If this was Hillary reaching out to the blacks its like wow nothing wrong here, but just because its Trump the media has to have narrative attached to him such that he is a racist misogynist bigot.
ReplyDeleteI think Trump does care, but at the same time he is using them for good publicity. He still needs to appeal to more people in order to win the election, and historically, African-Americans tend to vote Republican, but with Trump's image, he is seen as racist and bigoted.
ReplyDeleteWe all know by now how racist Trump is. The black community knows this too, so that's probably why he is so unpopular with them. I think that there's a very likely chance that he is using them to gain more supporters by making it seem as if he does care just in order to beat Clinton and win the presidency.
ReplyDeleteI feel that Hillary Clinton is the more popular vote because she is not portrayed as racist as Trump. I think Trump is doing this because he wants to no longer be seen in the eyes of the media as a racist. This will help him win the election.
ReplyDeleteI think that Trump may actually try to help if he spent his time going to a church. Saying this as an Atheist, I would never waste my time going to any church so He is doing something different. I think he is using the Christianity thing just to gain more support.

ReplyDeleteI do not think Trump really wishes to help the Black community, I find that he realizes that Black people aren't on his side and wants to gain them to vote for him in the election. I don't think Trump really does wish to make the county look to Christianity, I think he's saying that in hopes to have the christian religion to agree with that statement and cast their votes for Trump, due to the Christian religion being such a popular and wide spread religion.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Drew, in saying that Trump may actually be trying to help if he is spending time to go to churches. I personally believe that he is trying to find more areas to obtain voters for himself, but i also do believe Trump is not looking to make the USA an only christian place.
ReplyDeleteI think that Trump chooses to do this action to get more voters. He already knows that he lost the majority of the black voters and is now trying to gain them back. I do not think he sincerely wishes to help the black community.
ReplyDeleteI believe Trump is only trying to gain more votes from the Black community. I feel his support for them is fake because he has not been very supportive of them previously and has focused on other issues. I don't think Trump is trying to push for Americans to be Christian, but he most likely supports it.
ReplyDeleteI think Trump will change his face depending on who he's talking to. He'll cater to the black vote, and then he'll turn around and call them criminals to other people. He's a master at the skill of trampling on other people to get what he wants. If Trump won the presidency, I doubt it would be in his priorities to look out for the black community. I also think that the Christianity is somewhat a ploy to get more voters as well. If he can reunite white and black voters through this value, he can get more votes. If you ask me, Trump doesn't respect a lot of Christian values, so I have a hard time believing he's really invested in making this country Christian. Regardless, religion has no business in government affairs, so I disapprove either way.
ReplyDeleteTrump may actually be trying to help however If Trump won the presidency, I doubt it would be in his priorities to look out for the black community. and The black community knows thisn with this in mind Trump is also trying to target Black voters because he most likely feels like this will help him obtain the win.

ReplyDeleteHe is without a doubt using this to get more press. He just wants to seem appealing to the rest of the population. But it is obvious that he has resentment towards other races (as shown in many of his conferences). This is merely an act to get him more press and more support. If he were to become president, without a doubt, he will throw away all the things he said he would do for African Americans and others. He truly only wants votes, no matter how he needs to do it.
ReplyDeleteI think that Trump will change the way he acts just to get votes, before he has said many things against the black community which has made him unpopular for votes, now that he needs them he is trying to appeal more to the black community. I think that because of this reason if Trump won the presidency he would not want to "make the country look to Christianity" or would he try to help the black community.
ReplyDeleteTrump is only saying that he cares for more voters, he used to say whatever he could to be popular in the press including insulting full races and populations and saying he will do horrible things but now that it is only 2 months away from the election i believe he is trying to go back on things he has said to appeal to more people.
ReplyDeleteFrom what we already know about trump and him hating Mexicans and minorities why would you think he would want to help the black community. Trump wants to be a dictator he wants power over everyone he's a power hungry man and if he were to ever become president it's over for everyone even if you're white.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Clement that Trump could be trying to help and if he does win the presidency that he would still try to help the black community. You can not just look at on person who is running for office that is trying to get votes. Even if that is all he is doing which would be wrong if he is, but every single person running in office is to get votes. Their goal is to get as many votes as they can and you haft to decide how far they will go to get those votes.
ReplyDeleteI feel like this is all an act to some degree. He wants to show he cares about voters so that they vote for him so he can gain all the power. He is a power hungry man, and only wants to run the United States. He doesn't care about the people, he just wants the title and that is it. He is trying to show that he cares, but we know from his past speeches that he has a mindset that can't be changed.
ReplyDeleteI think Trump was just trying to get votes up and increase popularity. In reality, if one were to look at his past actions they would know his actions are not sincere. I also think, yes he is attempting to slowly push more Christianity
ReplyDeleteI believe that Trump was doing this to give off the impression that he is not a racist so he could get some extra votes. He knows that the major reason people are against him is that he does not support all races.
ReplyDeleteI do not think that Trump is completely sincere with his current views. He is most definitely only using this opportunity to gain some last minute votes from the black community before the actual election date. Throughout his whole time campaigning, Trump has changed his social views so many times it is hard to distinguish between what matters he really believes in and what he’s making up just to get support from minority groups.
ReplyDeleteI think Trump did this as an act to get black voters. I think that one event should not and will not change people's views on him and I thin most people see right through him.
ReplyDeleteTrump has made many accusations earlier in his campaign that greatly differ with the outcome of this scenario. I believe that Trump is seeking more support from different groups, and he is reaching out to the African American community in order to gain the impression that he is accepting and not racist. Trump has made statements against the African American community and against other groups, and because of this, his popularity has declined recently. I feel as though he is trying to insincerely gain extra votes by trying to convince others that he has changed his views.
ReplyDeleteI believe Trump is becoming desperate to gain any supporters such as the African American community by going to a black church service. He doesn't want to support all races just the ones he believes will vote for him possibly if he acts like he supports him.
ReplyDeleteI think Trump is visiting black churches just as a publicity stunt. Trump knows that many African Americans are against his running for president so he's doing what he can to gain more votes. If he does become president, he won't be as "caring" as he is now because he will have gotten what he wants - the presidency. I wouldn't put it past him to create a facade like this.
ReplyDeleteI honestly believe that Trump doesn't mean anything that he is currently saying or doing. At the beginning of the campaign he started of by saying negative things about the black community. Now since election day is getting closer he wants to acquire as much votes as possible.
ReplyDeleteNo, I do not think that he genuinely wants to help the black community. Because he has a reputation of racism towards blacks, I think is only trying to gain support from them. In addition to this I think his claim to make the country turn back to christianity is another strategy to gain supporters. I do not think what he did here was to show he cares, but instead it was only to increase his support.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Trump is only saying this because he wants more supporters. Even though if he was able to do win the presidency I do not think he will really do promises because the previous presidents have said so many things, but some of them can't really keep the promises that they made after the elections.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I believe that Trump is only trying to gain support for this campaign. He's known to be racist, so it is only fair for most of us to believe that he genuinely doesn't care and only wants votes. Hopefully, he doesn't make the country look to christianity, and since some people have different religions, I don't think it is possible.
