Image result for hillary clinton pneumonia
On Sunday September 11, 2016, Hillary Clinton nearly faints while leaving the 9/11 memorial in New York. The cause of her fainting was that she had been diagnosed with Pneumonia. Although modern medicine can easily have her back on her feet, it raises concern for the future of the probable president of the United States. Clinton's health has many of her supporters concerned with her being able to compete against Donald Trump who is using her health issues to his advantage. Two decades ago, Bob Dole, a former Republican presidential nominee, congratulated the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team. He was 73 years old then and the Brooklyn Dodgers had not existed in over 40 years. This led to the media quickly questioning if he was maybe too old to run for president and was nicknamed "Bob Old". Presently, many are calling Hillary Clinton's near-collapse a "Dole" moment, which could potentially make her seem unable to fit the position of president.
Discussion Questions:
1. Do you think that Hillary Clinton's health can cause her to lose support in her campaign?
2. Can her health issues potentially make her not only lose support but maybe even make people look towards supporting Donald Trump?
3. If you belonged in either the Republican or Democratic party, would you decide to look for a new candidate? Why or why not?

  1. Personally I think that her health will drop her out of the campaign or lose potential votes because people do not want a sick and unhealthy president. I believe that some people will eventually look towards Donald Trump because he would be the last source they would actually go to. At this point I think people want a new candidate because she is unfit to do her job at the moment, and by not being able to do her job now can force people to believe that she can't do her job later.

  2. I agree with Matteo in that losing support for such a small issue that is also curable is ridiculous. I don't believe the people on Hillary's side have much to turn to anyways, no one voting for Hillary is willing to give a second look toward Trump given how much difference there is between the two candidates and their followers.

  4. Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have extremely stark contrasts in their ideas for the future, it is safe to say that the people voting for them have reasons beyond health issues or who would take their place. It is all about picking a side, and the sides have been picked. I personally would not care if a candidate had a health issue, and I would continue supporting my political party.

  5. It seems very possible for Clinton's health to affect her in the campaign. The people want to make the right choice for America. And Clinton might not be the best choice, especially if she isn't the best health-wise. Clinton and Trump aren't the only possible choices for the presidency. So no, I don't think people will automatically switch over to Trump's side. I don't think the people would want to support someone who uses Clinton's health issues to his advantage. It's wrong of him to do.

  6. I feel Hillary's health will not greatly decrease her support. Pneumonia, with today's modern advances in medicine, is curable and should not pose a long term affect on her health, so I feel most people will continue to support her. In addition, the vice president is there to take over if the president is unable to fulfill their duties, and I feel that Tim Kaine would be a better leader than Donald Trump.

  7. I don't think Clinton's health is going to have a drastic impact on her support. People like Trump are so quick to jump to conclusion when it is possible that Clinton's health is not as severe as everyone thinks it is. I think Trump is just finding any way to bring Clinton and her campaign down.

  8. Both presidential candidates are comparably older than Obama, which is worrisome in my opinion, because both are not as physically and maybe intellectually strong as our previous president. This episode may be the first demonstration of Clinton's declining health, but I don't think it will be the last. She needs to be her best self in order to be the leader of our country, and for that reason, I'm afraid that Clinton's supporters may be discouraged.

  9. people seem to forget that donald trump is actually older than hillary clinton. hillary may be sick at the moment, but is an illness that is well within the reach of modern medicine. Donald trump is simply trying to drag hillary down by any means at his disposal, and is taking advantage of public unease regarding the subject

  10. I agree with Patrick Lynch, Trump is older than Hillary. Yes, health issues will really determine who lives the longest but generally speaking Hillary is younger. I think if she keeps her health up and stays checking up on her health as I am sure she would, she'll be fine.

  11. I think that the media overreacted to Hillary Clinton's diagnosis of pneumonia. To me it does not seem like a big deal because she is technically the VIP patient in any hospital she chooses to go to. Clinton's choice to reveal her health condition suggests that she knew having pneumonia was not a big deal, and it creates the possibility to gain supporters. If Clinton had cancer, there is no way she would have provided that information to the media. Likewise, I believe that Donald Trump, who is 70 years old and 2 years older than Hillary Clinton, will potentially be diagnosed with a health condition anytime during his 4-year term.

  12. Clinton's health will be a large factor in the election because nobody really wants an ill president to be leading the country. It will not only affect her stress levels and health but if she cannot work at her best effort, the nation will be unable to function correctly

  13. I agree with Natalie that the current candidates are considerably older than Obama, and with age comes vulnerability to health risks. I believe that this illness could cause Hillary to lose support since people would question whether she is physically capable to handle the role of President of the United States. People may or may not lean towards Trump as a result; however, many people are still against his policies and approach to politics and would not support him if he uses Hillary Clinton's health disadvantage to his benefit.

  14. I agree with with some people above, Donald Trump is older than Hillary, and the fact that she was diagnosed with pneumonia doesn't mean she will loose votes it just means she has to take care of her health so that she can be president if she wins. I do not think that she is really hiding any illness, she just does not want to make a bid deal out of it, she is really focused to be president.
