Obama Sees ‘Personal Insult’ if Blacks Don’t Rally for Hillary Clinton

Recently democratic leaders have showed concern for the lack of support shown from young black voters towards Hilary Clinton. This caused Obama to come out with his own campaign message "It's about me". He has given supporting speeches for Hilary before, but this one was more unique in a sense that it was a personal topic. During the speech he told African Americans that he would take it as a "personal insult" if they did not vote for Clinton on election day. Although Obama won't be on the ballot himself he wants others to vote for Clinton because "our progress is on the ballot". Since the message came out Clinton has the advantage of 83 percentage points compared to Trump according to the New York Times/CBS News Polls.

1. Do you think Obama's speech was sincere or just a tactic used to get Clinton more votes?
2. With only 50 days left before the election, do you think Obama's speech was the only was Clinton could have earned that much more of support from black voters? If not, what other ways do you think she could have accomplished this?

3. Do you think the diction Obama used in his speech was insensitive to voters? Would you feel pressured to vote for Clinton?

  1. Of course by saying that it would be a "personal insult" to him if they didn't vote for her would definitely pressure a lot of young black voters to vote for Clinton. Although it's good for Clinton, I don't think our current president should be influencing anyone on who they should vote for to be the next president; it should be everyone's individual choice on who they want to vote for.

  2. I agree with Haley that our current president should not influence young voters in his own perspective. I think that it was mostly for Clinton to win because that would not be a fair insult.

  4. The young generation has a righto what they believe in and should not be influenced. I think it was directed to clinton.

  5. Democrats like democrats... it's nothing new. Is it a shock to anyone that Hillary is using her resources within the democratic party to gain a victory? Hillary can't play the race card herself, so she gets Obama to do it. Either party will do a lot to ensure 4 years in the white house.

  6. I also agree with Haley because not only is Hilary taking advantage of a important political figure but this message has also influenced the votes of many young and black voters.

  7. I don't think that it's wrong for Obama to take a stance. He's allowed to have his own opinion, and he's equally allowed to express it. It's not like the entire country supports Obama, therefore he is not wielding unfair power over the entire population. Obama is right, if you vote for Clinton, you're voting to keep the policies and progress made by the Obama administration intact. If Trump is elected, all the progress goes down the drain. Some voters don't see this. They don't care about policy, just the personality of the candidates. Obama is trying to get his supporters to see why voting for Clinton is in their best interest.

  8. This is most definitely a tactic used by Obama to get Hillary into the White House. Obviously they have a friendship that has grown more and more since she was his Secretary of State for 4 years. Not only that, as stated above, democrats and republicans will say whatever it takes to have their nominee put into office. He should allow people to vote for who they want on political beliefs and policies. Race, gender, and religion should be secondary to what the person has said and past actions of theirs. This would not scare me into voting for any politician.

  9. looks like Obama is supporting Hillary ,by encouraging more people to vote for he so she can win . But he forgot that she should earn it herself by proving to people that she is the right president for this country.

  10. Obama's actions are his own unlike what people have been saying here he is not being "taken advantage" of he is his own person and has the right to voice his opinions. I think he is being sincere as well as using his position to Help Hillary Clinton because he supports her as a candidate as opposed to trump. And because our system makes it even harder for a third party to even debate against the others he want people to vote for her

  11. I think Obama's speech was sincere as well as a political tactic. It is possible Obama exaggerated his opinion and emotional connection towards Clinton, however I still believe Obama has strong support for Clinton. This emotional speech would definitely persuade the black population to vote in favor of Clinton because they trust Obama and his opinion would persuade them. I do think Obama's speech as overly sensitive, however its not something to insult.

  12. I agree with Caitlyn that Obama's speech could be a mix of both sincere and tactic; he is entitled to express his opinion about who he believes should be supported, and it is not extremely outrageous for one powerful democrat to support another that is running for office.

  13. I think that Obama might not have been complete sincere since he is on Clinton's side and wants her to win. I don't think people should be influenced by what Obama says, instead vote for the candidate they want.

  14. I feel Obama's tactic was sincere, and also served the purpose of getting more votes. I feel his approach was forceful but understandable because Hillary would continue black equality and programs which Obama started instead of getting rid of them which would be possible under Trump.

  15. I believe that while Obama may actually feel insulted, the main purpose of his statement was to increase support for Hillary. There are many who supported Obama, but they do not all overlap with Clinton supporters, and he is trying to make them vote for her to bring her into office.

  16. Obama´s tactic is very sincere and should be able to get more votes. His approach might have been too drastic but you do whatever it takes to get as much voters.

  17. i believe this was a very underhanded tactic. whether he is actually insulted or not, pressuring voters a certain way because of a perceived insult is manipulative

  19. In my opinion I think that Obama only gave this speech to get more votes for Hillary since the election is getting near, I do believe that he was being sincere in some parts but not fully sincere, the only thing that Obama wants is for Hillary to win.

  21. I also think that this was all just to make sure Hillary gets a lot more support making her chances of winning go up. In the end, Obama would rather have a fellow democrat win than a republican with completely different ideals than those of his own

  22. I think that it was sincere what he said because it is true. I feel like President Obama feels like he didn't get to get all of his ideas in and accomplish everything that he wanted to and Hillary is a way to make sure that we get more stuff done. Yes he was also promoting her but he was also trying to get the public to realize that Trump will do nothing for us. People keep saying "Obama 3rd Term" and Obama responds with saying if you want someone who is like me then vote for Hillary.

  23. While Obama's speech was a little extreme, I think because there's only some time left until the presidential election, he needed to get his idea across efficiently and I feel like his speech did just that. It's obvious that he's very passionate about Clinton being elected, so he must have been sincere.

  24. It was a mixture of tactic and sincere to get Clinton more voters. Yes, i believe coming out of our current president people would've felt guilty toot vote for clinton. I would feel pressured to vote for Clinton because Obama is basically saying to vote for her if not then your insulting Obama.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I believe it is a tactic to get Clinton more voters. However, it's easy to see that he is being 100% serious and is passionate about what he had said. He did not get to meet all of the things he wanted to do during his presidency. Overall, I think he believes Clinton can finish his work and go even beyond that. However, I think it that he has to accept and respect that people have their own opinions. People think differently and may not want to go in the direction he wants. Pressuring voters, in the long run, can do a lot more bad than good.

  26. It's all a game, and Obama is using his influence on his last legs to help continue a legacy most similar to his own and nothing more. He gathered african-american voters during his election, so to call them out again is putting disrespect to their work earlier when he was elected. I don't think he should have put such pressure when there are african americans who could and are voting for trump to be put in such a bad light for their opinions. Hillary could have easily accomplished this persuasion feat by putting out better opinions and more consistent views with the african american community and address them personally in her speeches altogether, not have another vouch for her.

  27. I think that this is definitely pressuring people into voting for Clinton but in a way it is sincere because he really does want people to vote for Clinton and believes that Clinton can do a good job and finish Obama's work. I think that this is definitely one of the few ways that she could have gotten more votes this late in the campaign but she may come up with more ideas to gain votes.

  28. I do believe that Obama’s speech got many more African Americans to vote for Clinton because many people, including African Americans, look up Obama and many want his political ideology to progress through the next years, and the only way for that to happen is if Clinton ends up in office. It is critical that Clinton gets support from African Americans because it will greatly help her in the race. Obama’s speech was sincere because him and Clinton are very close and they have always shown support for each other in the past.

  29. I also believe that Obama is using his influence in order to gain Hillary Clinton more support. Using the current president's influence to get more votes for a candidate was most likely his intention. He wants an ideology similar to his own, and putting pressure on voters is wrong. However, this is also indicative that he sees her as the most suitable candidate to carry on his legacy. I do not think this is the only way she could have gotten support from African Americans. Showing support for the African American community has helped her gain votes, and her political ads are far more inclusive and racially diverse.

  30. I believe that Obama wants the pest for the people and the country and he does not want someone like trump to be president due to all trump has said, which makes him sound so immature. I believe that what Obama did will help Hillary a lot because a lot of people like Obama and Obama just wants to have the good progressing.

  31. I think that coming from someone who has as much influence as president Obama, telling others to vote for Clinton would definitely affect the amount of votes she gets come election day. By telling black voters that it would be a “personal insult” towards him, Obama is putting a great amount of pressure on those voters to choose Clinton over Trump. Personally, I do not think that is fair of him, and these voters should come the the conclusion of who they want to vote for on their own.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think it would have been a much more difficult and gradual process to gain the support of all the young African American voters if Obama hadn't made this statement. I don't think Clinton would have not received many of these votes come November, but this acted as a significant push in her direction.

  33. The way I took it was, Obamas position is more of encouraging more people vote. He may think that people arnt going to vote b/c the candidates are unfit for presidency, although that may be true. He feels entitled to let his own supports know not voting would be a bad refection on the US if people did not support their own president.

  35. I think what Obama said was sincere, but it was also a way for Clinton to get voters. I don't that Obamas speech was the only one that would get clack voters to vote for Clinton, but it was definitely one that would have made the most impact on black voters. A lot of black voters do support Obama and want to be on his side, therefore if Obama sides will Clinton it will increase the changes of Clinton getting their votes.

  37. I believe that Obama's speech was sincere but to also increase the number of votes Clinton will receive. I don't think that his speech would have been the only way for Clinton to receive support from African-American voters because there are many of them who already support her; however, I do believe that it will make an impact on African-American supporters for Clinton. I would feel pressured to vote for Clinton if I was a supporter of Obama but voting for a candidate other than Clinton; however, one's vote is still his/her own choice and he/she has the power to vote for who he/she wants.

  38. I think that it's both sincere and a way to get Hillary votes, I think Clinton could have used different ways to get more votes, but Obamas speech probably increased it more.

  39. I think that it is a combination between wanting Hillary to win because he is a democrat, but also wanting her to win because our other option is horrible. So I believe that it is both a tactic as well as sincerity. I think having a black president support Hillary will definitely help her in the black community, but it definitely wasn't her only option. I don't think it was insensitive, I think that he's just scared about what are country may become.

  40. I dont think Obama's statement was sincere. I think he is emotionally manipulating the crowd to vote for his party. Its not rare to have politicians going above and beyond to make sure their party stays in power and in this case holding power in the executive branch. Obamas speech definitely did Hilary a huge favor in securing the African American vote.

  41. I think Obama had the right to say what he had to say. It is nice of what he did because he has a lot of people that support him as well. If people really listen to what he says Hillary might want to show that she can promise more than Trump can. HIs speech really change the minds of others on voting for Hillary.

  42. I think the main purpose of Obama's speech was to push the crowd towards voting for Hilary. I'm pretty sure it was because she is a democrat and she is a probably a better option when compared to Trump. In a way, all Obama did with his speech was pressure his supporters into voting for Hilary, even if this wasn't exactly what they wanted

  43. Obama's diction makes voters think and react by voting for Hilary. I feel like Obama's speech did help Hilary get more votes.

  44. I feel like Obama's tactics were only used to get votes for Hillary. Despite Obama using his tactics to get people to vote for Hillary, people should just vote for who they want for president.
