Tulsa Officer Shoots Innocent African American
Officer Betty Shelby shot and killed on Terrence Krutcher a father of four. She is being charged with being emotionally involved that the confrontation escalated. Ms. Shelby said that she was, "Fear for her life and thought he was going to kill her." Ms. Shelby was yelling at Mr. Krutcher with her weapon drawn she was telling him to got on his knees but he did not listen but he had his hands up while walking. The prosecutors say that she killed him in a fit of anger or she killed him as she was trying to detain him. If she is convicted she gets minimum of 4 years.
- Do you think she should get minimum of 4 years
- How would you react if you were Mr Krutcher's family
- Do you think that Ms. Shelby acted in anger or self defense
I think if she was acting in self-defense she wouldn't have been yelling at him or brandishing a weapon while he had his hands up non violently so I do think she acted in anger.
ReplyDeleteNo, she killed a person. She should get life sentence. If I was Crutcher's family I would be infuriated. I would want total justice where it should be given. She ated in anger because he was not armed and he had his hands up.

ReplyDeleteNo she should go to jail for life if she killed someone. I would be so upset and devastated especially if he listened to her directions and she is only getting four years. I think she should have never even had to kill him
ReplyDeleteIf any other person was to shoot him, they would get life. Its devastating for the family because they were expecting him to come back home and not get shot/killed. I think Shelby reacted in anger which is why she should be put in for life.

ReplyDeleteFrom what I read I dont think the murder was justified, but at the same time I'm pretty sure it wasn't a hate crime or something that was premeditated. I think Officer Shelby's poor judgment and choice should come with an exceptionally strict sentence because she was an authority figure and failed horribly to set a good example and make society safer. Officer shelby was probably trying to defend herself but she should still be put on trial for voluntary man slaughter.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe that she should a get a minimum of four years because she killed an innocent man. If I was his family I would be filled with anger and hate.I believe she acted like if she killed this man then he would just be another statistic on a graph and did not care for the man or what he meant to this world.
ReplyDeleteI also think she should go to prison because she took a life. If I were Krutcher's family, I would also be very frustrated with the justice system and mourn the loss. Officer Shelby may have been acting in self defense, but if Krutcher was unarmed, then it would have been voluntary man slaughter as Shanna said.
ReplyDeleteI think she should go to jail. What she did was not justified. If she felt threatened by the man, she shouldn't have shot him but maybe took some other measure to calm him down instead of killing him. I think she had trigger happy fingers and she didn't think through what she was doing. And if that's the case, she really should not be a cop if she can't handle the pressure of the job.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion one should always follow the direction of the police officer however crazy it may seem. Yes the law maybe protective in this case but the law is applies after the fact. Police officers are human beings and are scared if the situation seems to be out of control as it was in this case. They also have family and kids to come home to at night. I do not believe that race played a significant role in this case disobedience of officer instructions had a much greater weight than the color of the skin. The police officers actions maybe interpreted as foolish for not taking a cover and letting the victim take the next step. Its no more foolish that Hilary Clinton having a personal email server endangering US secrets.
ReplyDeleteI think that this issue has gotten out of control and each time this becomes worse. I believe she should get more than 4 years because at the end of the day we are equal and the fact that she killed the innocent man is wrong because she took a father away a son a husband that was innocent. This woman deserves to be jail for the wrong she did.
ReplyDeleteI believe that she unfit to be a police officer and be stripped of her badge. Well managing your emotions & not being able to proper handle situations you trained for are signals. Though i feel like she should not be fired from the police department, she should be back in training either to to regain her badge or either be transferred to another type of police work.
ReplyDeleteNo, I do not think that that sentence is fitting for the crime she committed. I think similar to what others have said, if it were anyone else the sentence would be much greater. I would be extremely angry if I were Mr. Krutcher's family because this is just another example of the injustice in our society and justice system today. In addition, four kids, a wife, and countless other loved ones of Mr. Krutcher just lost someone that they loved dearly, that didnt deserve to be killed. It is unfair to his family that she is being let off so easily.

ReplyDeleteI do not believe that the punishment fits the crime. If the person was someone who did not look as socially "good", then the sentence would be much greater than what it ended up being. If I was the family I would feel like I was cheated by the justice system and government. This event totally validates what many have been talking about with the subject of people having certain benefits because of their race.
ReplyDeleteI believe the punishment should be much more severe than just 4 years of jail time, I think she should be charged with murder. I would be furious to find out that they 4 years is that max that she was given. I think it was an act of racism, not anger nor self defense.
ReplyDeleteI think this is not right. Many incidents have happened like this and nothing changes. I say minimum of 15 years would be right and the way she acted was definitely not in a act of self-defense. If I were the family, I would go after her and kill her to seek revenge.
ReplyDeleteI believe that she should get a larger sentence as a police officer youre excuse should not be fear to shoot someone. you should be trained to face these situations so like what josh said she should have gone through better training
ReplyDeleteI also believe that she should get a longer sentence. She should already be trained and know that even when scared, to not act upon her emotions.
ReplyDeleteyes she should get 4 years. I would want her imprisoned. most likely anger.
ReplyDeleteI think she should get a minimum of 4 years only if she killed him just from anger. I would be angry if I was the victim's family. I think it is a mix of both self-defense and anger.
ReplyDeleteThe officer should go to prison for life, the man was unarmed there is no reason for her to be afraid for her life when he had no weapons on him and he had his hands up not doing anything wrong.
ReplyDeleteOfficer Shelby should deserves to go to prison because a person in her position should know not lash out from anger or confrontation. Even if she was acting in self defense, she still took the life of someone who was unarmed.
