Obama, Clinton, and the Democrats are calling for a public option to give consumers more options on healthcare marketplaces. Other Democrats prefer the Bernie Sanders plan for single payer, which would essentially expand Medicare throughout the health care system. Donald Trump prefers a private option where people contribute to health savings accounts. The problem with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is that individual plans on the marketplaces remain too expensive. Despite the ACA providing 20 million more Americans health insurance, President Obama acknowledges that more health care reform is needed. Donald Trump would work to repeal the ACA.
Discussion Questions:
1. Should health care be provided to all and funded by the government as Bernie Sanders suggests?
2. Will adding a public option to the existing private options on insurance marketplaces help make health care more affordable and accessible to those who don't have it? (the Clinton/Obama plan)
3. Are Trump and the Republicans right that health insurance should be private, offered through employers, and optional for consumers and businesses?
Yes healthcare should be provided and funded by the government because there are some families that cannot afford healthcare for themselves or their loved ones.Yes because the opinion of the people matters. They are not right because everyone need healthcare.
ReplyDeleteI believe that government-supported health care is a failure to the people. We are being taxed for changes so little that nothing important gets changed. By making health care a private business, I am 100% sure that health care will be accessible for everybody, and there would be less taxes. Just look at McDonald's: even homeless people can go and get fed. Business is good. Everyone has a share.

ReplyDeleteI think Health care should be provided and funded by the government to all no matter what. Good health should be available to everyone not just people who can afford it. As an american i believe it is our right to have good health.
ReplyDeleteI definitely think we should expand the options on health care. Giving varying degrees of prices lets people choose how much health care they want covered. This is also important because many people cannot afford the one fixed price. This plan helps accommodate everyone because they can choose which plan works best for them.
ReplyDeleteHealth care should not be provided to all and funded by the government as Bernie Sanders suggests because that is too much money for the government to fork out.
ReplyDeleteI think that the government should stay out of health care because all that will do is cause more money to be taken from the government and taxes.
ReplyDeleteI believe that adding a public option to existing private options on insurance plans can make healthcare more affordable. It will help those who cannot afford healthcare, but they want a better alternative to Obamacare. However, I do agree with the idea that insurance should be offered through businesses because it gives incentives to people to stay at a company longer.
ReplyDeleteI think there should be both private and public healthcare because people with private healthcare would want to keep their healthcare but at the same time people who can't afford private healthcare can have public healthcare.
ReplyDeleteI believe that healthcare should be provide to everyone and should be funded by the government, they have all the money and power to do so. Health should not be private, trump is an idiot and does not know what he's saying.
ReplyDeleteI think health care should be provided by the government so everyone has the equal chance of having the care they need. I do no think health care should be private because not everyone has the money to even have health insurance in the first place.
ReplyDeleteHealthcare should be provided by the government and there should be a public option as well as the private options to help everyone obtain health insurance and health care
ReplyDeleteI think that the best option right now is to have a mix of government-funded and private options in order to provide healthcare for everyone; though maybe at some point healthcare will be completely government funded, right now the government probably cannot support all people's healthcare.
ReplyDeleteYes I think that a health care service funded by the government is a good idea however the question is where is the money going to come from seeing that we are trillions of dollars in debt. Yes I think that it will make it more affordable. I understand Trumps mindset because it will motivate people to get more jobs however it is an issue because some people just can't get it.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, anybody should be able to afford public heath care, no matter their financial background. And in general, the federal government should interfere when there are health issues in the nation. So yes, the government should help people who are sick and yet can't get the medical attention they need.
ReplyDeleteI think every one should have healthcare and the government should pay for Health care. I don't think trumps plan will work because some just can't seem to be able to afford health care and he cause people to not pay for health care.
ReplyDeleteBy allowing the privatization of health insurance, it will replicate a competition that we see with phone and insurance companies. This kind of competition is healthy because each company would be striving to exceed expectations for customers, however, to ensure that these companies do not take advantage, the government would need to set some guidelines, rules rather. However, what this would overlook is those who can't afford health insurance especially with the other necessities that they have to pay, phone, electricity, car insurance, and etc. In a way, we need to ensure that health is afford for both middle and lower.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Bernie Sanders idea regarding healthcare should be accepted and done because many people cannot afford healthcare it is super expensive for many people and I believe it is not fair for those that cannot afford it to not be able to maintain healthcare, so it should b funded by the government, or at least the government should help these people a lot.
ReplyDeletePublic heath care should be accessible no matter their financial background. Its wrong to turn on someone who is in need. & those who are in struggle the gov. should step in.
ReplyDeleteI have always believed that the government should provide everyone with healthcare. No one should be denied help if they are not fortunate enough to afford it; it sounds contradicting.
ReplyDeleteI believe healthcare should be provided to the people by the government and that all Americans have equal quality of healthcare. As the government of our country, it is their responsibility to ensure Americans live their lives to the fullest with care if something happens such as injury.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think that health care should be provided to all and funded by the government because the government should care enough about their citizens to offer medical help if needed.

ReplyDeleteI believe basic yet quality healthcare should be provided for everyone, emphasis on quality. Trump and Republicans in general are entitled to their own opinions as is any human, yet this does not mean they are right or wrong. Debatable topics don't have a right or wrong answer since responses are opinion based.
ReplyDeleteI agree, not a complex form but some form of quality health care should be provided to the citizens. I understand that will come out of tax payers pockets, but in reality, we need to pull on the same rope as a country in order to better the country as a whole
ReplyDeleteI agree, that healthcare should be give out by the government as a basic form of health care. Instead of Obamacare which it raises taxes for everyone. The system will make sure people will have equal pay and taxing. I do not think they should be allowed to have healthcare private because that will make it harder for people to sign up for healthcare.
ReplyDeleteI do not think that healthcare should be funded to all because it is too expensive and it wouldn't be fair for those who work to be given the same benefits as those who have the ability to work but don't.
ReplyDeleteI believe health care should be based on income. The richer should be taxed to fund their own health. Though at the same time the poor should not be declined assistance or medical aide just because of their shortcomings.
ReplyDeleteTrump's plan does sound like a good one, so I am interested in seeing how that plays out if his presidency is to be accepted. Trump though idiotic in most of his banter, has some real points when it comes to certain things.

ReplyDeleteI think healthcare should be made available to everyone, whether they can afford it or not. I think if they can't afford it, the government should give them a basic form of healthcare so everyone is protected.
ReplyDeletei think health care is a human right so naturally I agree with Bernie that everyone should have access to health care. I think by creating a public option in the insurance market would definitely make health care more accessible while creating more competition in the market.
ReplyDeleteHealth care should be provided to all citizens in order to keep our people safe. I also agree with shanna that it is a human right that should be granted by the government. Adding public opinion is justified, for it is part of democracy to let the people have a say in government. I do not agree with Trump that health insurance should be private
ReplyDeletePrivatizing the healthcare system gives what many want in their sense of "choosing different affordable levels of healthcare" Buying into the government's notion, specifically Bernie Sanders' notion, that healthcare can rain from the sky and be provided for all by the central government is beyond comprehensibility. Those who support such a program will be paying into a government system each year out of their own pockets to pay for their own, most likely minimal, healthcare, along with the healthcare of others. Such a system would be ridden with issues and leave public healthcare areas catching up, private healthcare gives variety and choice out of one's own free will of the pocket to be covered as little or as much as they need. Putting a public option would only mean on top of those paying for private healthcare, they would pay more into taxes, I assume, to give benefits to those they don't even know, and for what? The public option would be a failure adding to the failure of Obama Care in the end. Giving employer power through this program would help more than that option.
ReplyDeleteI think that everyone deserves free health insurance. There are many countries with free health insurance.
ReplyDeleteConsidering how difficult it is to simply afford housing in much of america, I believe the government should do its best to make healthcare significantly cheaper or free.
ReplyDeletewe definitely need a better health system in the us, a lot needs to be done so people can have a better health care system that doesn't cost them huge bills and stress.
ReplyDeleteI think we should look at not why Healthcare is so expensive, but rather how expensive hospitals are. How much do hospitals make? Can they cut this down at all? With costly medical procedures, how can we lower the cost using more efficient technology? I think that is what we should focus on, not the non-starter of healthcare that the nation seems divided on.
ReplyDeleteI think Health Care should be funded by the government but only given to those who really need it
