US in Yemen: If you threaten us, we'll respond
The US recently attacked three radar installations in Yemen because a US Navy destroyer was threatened by Iranian forces. Soon after, Pentagon officials made it very clear that if any more threats or actions are made towards the US, then the US forces will immediately respond. One of the reasons Iran attacked the US ship was because of all the violence that has been going on in the area around there. Especially with all the influences ISIS has been having, it's no wonder that both sides would be very quick to attack or to respond to an attack from either side. This connects to our current election because whoever becomes President will have a say in what to do in situations like these. All candidates have their own opinion on how we should deal with attacks like these and with terrorism in general. Here are some questions to think about:
1. Do you think it was right for the US to react like this to a minor offense?
2. If not, how do you think this should've been dealt with?
3. How do you personally believe the US should handle conflicts with ISIS and other violent groups?

The US definitely could have found a work around, but from the looks of things, it's best to be cautious. I believe that the US should only resort to violent solutions if there is no other way.
ReplyDeleteWhat the Iranians did was a huge microagression against the US of A. The easy solution is to exert our American dominance and destroy em all. We need more drones, we're going to have the best drones ladies and gentlemen, and we're going to defeat ISIS. Right now ISIS is scared about how we're going to deal with them. More destruction and more damage.
ReplyDeleteI think it was definitely right for the US to react like this to a "minor offense" because one really doesn't know how minor of an offense it is until it's done.
ReplyDeleteI think that this was not the right way for the US to respond. Attacking another country can lead to a big war. It will be the best to try to negotiate on a high level before continuing to an attack. I think that the US should handle threats against terrorism by sending spies over to terrorist organizations so they can prevent attacks from happening.
ReplyDeleteWhile war is never the preferable option, there are times when it is virtually impossible to avoid. Luckily, this situation doesn't need to begin any conflict. As long as both parties remain peaceful and diplomatic, no conflicts should arise.
ReplyDeleteI believe it was the right thing to do for the US to respond to this minor offense because it is better to be safe when protecting our country. I personally believe that the US should handle threats against terrorism by investigating more whether is be with spies or drones.
ReplyDeleteI believe that america acted appropriately, in a way that will assert our dominance while still avoiding a large scale conflict. given that Yemen threatened us.
ReplyDeleteI think that we need to look at the relationship between Yemen and America. Currently, Yemen is the base for terrorist organizations such as Al Qaeda. Because the country is in such a fragile state, so I do think that the US responded appropriately to the situation. Although the Iranian could have taken a more peaceful approach, I can understand their mentality behind the threats. The issue with terrorist groups is that it is too complex. There are various factors that go into the creation of terrorist groups and their motivates. However, there is a common thread and that is the instability in these countries.
ReplyDeleteI believe it was the right thing to do because we were threatened and we responded to the minor yet serious threat. I believe that we should handle this group like any other terrorist organization that this nation has faced which is slowly but surely destroy them over the years.
ReplyDeleteI think what the US did was right because they should not risk risk the safety of americans. I think that the US should deal with groups such as ISIS by showing them that the US is not afraid to act upon them and are willing to do anything they can to stop them.
ReplyDeleteI believe that this was the right way for the US to respond because it could put an end to any potential issues in the future. With many acts of terrorism going on internationally daily, it means that the US should be on high alert to reserve the safety of all Americans.

ReplyDeleteI believe the us did the right think Because we should not take any risk. Even though it was just a threat, it could have turned out worst.
ReplyDeleteThis act was simply within the guidelines of what the U.S. does to maintain its influence. Leaving nations unchecked when they commit acts, even this minor, lets other nations expand to possibly terrorize other nations without fear.
ReplyDeleteYes because the US should act on every threat and they should take care of ISIS their a huge problem
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the US should be more focused on working with Middle Eastern leaders to change things legally instead of continually attacking ISIS on every little thing. Doing so would anger the terrorist group even more, and what we need as a country is for them to disband, and not motivate them to terrorize more.
ReplyDeleteThe US should react to even the smallest threats because they should not take any risks or chances of getting attacked in order to ensure the safety of Americans. The US should definitely keep an eye on terrorists and the middle east because a lot of problems are occurring there and the Middle East seems really unstable
ReplyDeleteI think the u.s should respond the same way for all threats even ones that are little because the U.s has suffered from a lot of terrorist attacks so they should take it seriously even if it is a small threat. I think the U.S should do whatever it takes to stop Isis and the terrorist attacks.
ReplyDeletei think the US is overreacting, the US is a superpower in the world and everyone knows that, if it was a major threat like attack major cities in the US then the US has the right to overreact. It would of been dealt with democracy, and treaties and solving the problem without war, or a threat of a war. ISIS is a different story, they need to be eliminated because oppose a threat to everyone in the world, not just the US, the smaller threats should also be taken heavily but not as much as groups that aren't proven to actually commit and do attacks.
ReplyDeleteI think that it is necessary for the United States to respond in this way to ensure the safety of the people. I think the US should handle conflicts with violent groups by attacking back at them if they threaten or attack us.
ReplyDeleteI think it was right for the US to react with this minor offense because like Jessie said it would ensure that people are safe. I think the US should deal with ISIS not violently but maybe get some sort of agreement
ReplyDeleteIt was right for the US to respond to any threats to their battle ships. It shows that America will not back down from a fight and show our allies and other nations we are still strong. To deal with ISIS I believe that the US needs to work with Russia and other allies who are leading the assault
ReplyDeleteThe US actions were justifiable. We should be direct but hesitant starting a war due to being targeted by so many other sleeper pods groups.
ReplyDeletei personally believe that, while brutal, responding to threats swiftly and powerfully is the best course of action. there needs to be no doubt whatsoever of the willingness of the US to intervene where it deems necessary to function as a (even if temporary) "nuclear deterrent"
ReplyDeletewhen it comes to attacking us and our safety the government has to do all they can to prevent it and save Americans . attacks happens everywhere so us had to make sure its safe.
