Judge rebukes administration over few admissions for Syrian Christian refugees

article link

A federal judge has remarked that the Obama administration has let in a disproportionate amount of christian refugees from Syria in the last year. Of the 10% christian population in Syria that has been reported, only one half of one percent of Syrian christians made up the 11,000 Syrian refugees let into the U.S. in 2016. The information presented to states often in not sufficient by the federal government, and federal judge Daniel Manion has outlined that there has been no real explanation for this great discrepancy. State departments have tried to gain information on why, but one of the reasons, Manion cites, could be affiliation with Christian Militia groups in Syria which puts the refugees on lists not to be accepted, and that has dire consequences. The lack of information about the numbers is more troubling to people like Manion than the actual occurrence itself at this point.

1.) Should the U.S. federal government put more emphasis on providing reasoning behind their refugee loads each year to provide to news outlets everywhere?
2.) Why do you think there is a great discrepancy in Christian refugees coming from the large Christian population in war-torn Syria?
3.) Why hasn't the committee dealing with refugees come out with reasoning behind their choice to only let in 56 Christians out of 11,000 refugees in 2016?

  1. I think that there's a great discrepancy in Christian refugees coming from Syria because they have a strong religious affiliation with the places that they live in. People with faith are not afraid of danger or death because they are with God.

  2. I don't think the US is obligated to explain the discrepancy because there could be lots of reasons why this is. While it is confusing as to why not many Christian refugees are coming to the US, if it is simply because there is a disproportionate amount it is understandable why the statistics reflect this. There is no way of learning the true cause of this, and it's not that big of a deal. There's no reason that the US would be discriminating refugees based on religion.

  3. There always need to be more emphasis on the reasoning behind why the government does anything because we need to know.I believe that they are coming because of the amount of acceptance the people of the U.S has towards different religions. I do not know why they don't let in the rest of the people in. Maybe It is because they do not have the resources to support all of those refugees.

  4. I believe the amount of Christian refugees from Syria and other refugees from Syria means nothing. It may simply be a coincidence, especially because there are many more non-Christian Syrians than Christian Syrians.

  6. I think this is an issue, and it would be nice to see some type of reasoning. I think transparency is also the best policy. Since Christians are especially persecuted in Syria, we should at least be accepting them in proportional amounts. I'm not saying there's necessarily any injustice or discrimination going on, but these numbers are troubling, and it would be nice to understand the reason behind them. If there is something wrong with the system, we can cross that bridge when we get to it.
