Raqqa Offensive Against ISIS to Begin Within Weeks: Ash Carter

Image result for raqqa offensive

According to Ash Carter in a recent exclusive interview, the United States secretary of defense, the offensive to eliminate ISIS from its capital, Raqqa, will be launched within weeks. The assault will be led by Arab and Turkish fighters with US support. When questioned about whether US troops or special operation forces would be sent inside Mosul or Raqqa, Carter replied: "our forces are not near Mosul at this time[...] We are not going to be part of the occupation or hold forces." Sending US troops in ISIS-controlled territory and cities is dangerous. Iraqi security forces and the Kurdish militia have already faced ISIS suicide attacks, car bombs and other attacks. Moving to the topic of Mosul, Carter said that the Mosul offensive is expected to take months, but ISIS resistance will certainly increase by a lot the closer the troops are to the inner areas of the city.

1. After a period of ISIS terrorism, the terrorist group is finally being dealt with. What do you think about the Raqqa offensive? Will this be the end of ISIS? Or will this end up taking months, like the battle in Mosul?

2. Knowing that there could be extreme danger, should the US send special forces or other troops with the Iraqi and Kurdish troops to the heart of ISIS? Why or why not?

  1. I believe that launching an offensive attack on ISIS is a good idea because it will force ISIS to go on the defensive, the more pressure troops put on ISIS in the battle field, the more of their resources they will divert to defending them selves rather than harming innocents in unexpected attacks.

  3. i think this will not be the end of ISIS but it's a start to ending it hopefully soon. I think they should send special troops with the Iraqi and Kurdish troops.

  4. I don't think this will be the end of ISIS. Even if this one location is shut down, ISIS will be able to quickly reform and strengthen in a different area. This kind of terrorist group is widely mobile and more global than other terrorists groups in the past. This attack does sound like it could be successful, but it is at danger for being long and drawn out. We don't what this to turn into another Iraq war.

  5. I highly doubt this will end ISIS but possibly make the situation even worse. ISIS is a very large terrorist group and it is very unlikely that they will deteriorate if they lose the offensive.

  7. Attack ISIS will defiantly help the situation in the long run to keep ISIS from gaining ground and taking over other cities. Although ISIS is a huge organization so just this offensive will not stop them.

  9. I believe the only way that ISIS will truly be ended is when we just destroy the people and area where they inhabit. Send out a warning to civilians and then bomb it. This offensive most likely will take months and no, the US should not send more bodies to fill coffins.

  10. ISIS is killing innocent people, I think the US needs to help out because this can intimidate them.

  11. I think that the US should send minimal troops to fight in order to preserve US lives and try not to have another Afghanistan.

  12. Like the battle against the Taliban, the effort to end ISIS will take a long time and lots of firepower. ISIS terrorists have directly attacked and threatened US citizens, so this is not a matter that our military can sit back on and leave up to other nations. It is extremely necessary that the US forces team up with others in order to have the strongest and most effective attack.

  13. I don't believe that ISIS will stop I feel like they would keeping going and try to get power. The US should send special troops because of how there could be more training into the troopers.

  14. I think U.S. going to their homeland is going to be difficult and hard to wipe out ISIS. I think special forces would be needed.

  16. Honestly I think it is hard to really stop terrorism because they do not know who have thoughts of being a terrorist or people that are terrorists. People are always going to disagree with something and the people who go too extreme like terrorizing cities and not trying to communicate are the people who will never have the goal of world peace.

  17. I agree with Matteo that it is really difficult to stop terrorism as anyone could honestly be a terrorist because they are just like us their human theirs no real way to pin point who is a terrorist or not. I think that we should not join forces and attack ISIS because their would be a lot of troops dead from this.

  18. I believe that due to the Raqqa offensive it would take months to end ISIS because every time we are in a war it takes long and therefore, there would be many deaths
