With the continuation of Hurricane Matthew, hundreds of thousands of homes and buildings have been destroyed in North Carolina, racking up an estimated $1.5 billion in total damages and this is said to be only the beginning. John Dorman, a state emergency director, states that water only reaching the basement level will only cost around $300, while water reaching higher levels, will double in price. Although the total damage cost seems large, that figure does not take into account repairing roads or bridges, nor does it count the replacement of damages inside buildings. Among the damages increasing, so is the death toll. In North Carolina, there were 26 of the said 46 deaths. But what is not talked about very much is the death toll in Haiti, which is nearly 11 times larger at 500 deaths, only 300 less than Hurricane Katrina.

I believe the death toll is talked about more partly because of the fact that our domestic news reporters take priority to covering the disasters and events of our nation first and foremost, as it should be. There have been reports and talks in the news of the death toll in Haiti as well, one just needs to look at full news stories and stories beyond the first cover page to find them. Aid from U.
ReplyDeleteS. states to other U.S. states by donating money to aid or volunteering themselves as well. This disaster shouldn't be the subject of some debate on how to "correctly deal with it." It just takes common sense and care to help out the area like every other disaster.
Because its a problem with in the states so the focus more on their own country rather than other countries and people from other states can donate food, water, money just anything to help the people with in those states and yes I believe it should be in the election

They talk more about the death toll in the U.S because they are reporting news for our country and they want to inform the people of the U.S about what is happening in their country. People in other states can help by donating or volunteering to help clean things up. I think the presidential candidates should talk about clean up efforts because it gives voters an idea of how that person could help in similar situations in the future.

Another reason why death toll is talked about is so that more people will have the support of the people to give them a hand in their time of need.

I think organizations that specialize in supporting low income areas from other states can help. Other states can create search groups.I think it should definitely be brought up in the debate.

In order to help those affected by the hurricane in our own country, the other state governments and federal government can send supplies and people to help with the recovery.

Other states can send in can foods and donate money to specially made companies for situations like this.I believe that they need to talk about how people will be helped when natural disasters like this occur.

This can be done a little by each country, for countries like the U.S, China, and India have enough resources to be able to distribute.

ReplyDeleteI think the death toll in the U.S. is more talked about than the death toll in Haiti because Haiti is poor, underdeveloped, and therefore, is forgotten about. Unfortunately, that is how the system works. Because of humanity, people need to help each other. I think that it should be in the election debates because it is a federal issue and the nation as a whole need to be concerned about it.
