For Clinton & Trump There's Little Debating a Climate Change Divide
From our Wednesday debate topics, we can expect the Presidential candidates to discuss immigration, but likely not climate change at their final debate on Wednesday night. Americans do in fact care about this issue, but its not at the top of most priority lists. Clinton is concerned about climate change and has a detailed plan to address the issue that would include giving climate guru and former Vice President Al Gore a prominent role on her environmental team. Donald Trump believes climate change is a hoax, would pull the US out of the 2015 Paris environmental agreement, and expand fossil fuel exploration. Given that scientists regularly warn of the growing threat posed by climate change, this election offers a stark contrast in how the candidates would respond to this issue among many others.
Discussion Questions:
1. How much of a priority do we need to make climate change? Does it deserve top priority along with issues such as the economy, education, health care, and foreign policy or is it more of a side issue?
2. Who would you trust to lead our nation in responding to the issue of climate change? Why?
3. What should the role of the US be in addressing climate change given that its a global issue?
We need to take full priority in the situation that is climate change because if we do not take control of it now then it will affect our future. But it does not take priority over other issues that affect america today. I would trust anybody but Trump. Just follow the rest of the world but also add our input as to how to create change.
ReplyDeleteClimate change is as top of a priority as the other issues like economy, health care and education, for example. The effects of climate change is obviously evident throughout the world. Thus why I can't comprehend why Trump would just ignore it and even call it a hoax. Clinton, on the other hand, sees this as a major problem and wants to take action. Although it's an international issue, the US can definitely take a significant part in solving the issue if the next president decides to take action. If Trump is elected, then the US won't be able to do much regarding taking down climate change.
ReplyDeleteClimate change should become a priority because very soon our quality of life will be increasing at a completely uncontrollable rate. Climate change is not a hoax, and our nation should be partly responsible for making a change because of our large environmental footprint.
ReplyDeleteI agree that climate change should be one of the top priorities as well since it ties into the health of citizens and the economy. The effects of climate change are an international issue, and this potentially causes a large-scale refugee crisis if the water levels were to rise significantly due to melting ice caps. I would trust Clinton with this issue since she addresses the issue and agrees it is important to act now in order to prevent more irreversible damage and leave behind a greener legacy. Trump brushes climate change as a hoax, and says there are more pressing issues to attend to. The U.S. can take a step to solve the issue due to the resources we have and the research we can conduct; however, the course of action is heavily influenced by the President.
ReplyDeleteWe need to make climate change a top priority like issues like education and healthcare because it is a very concerning topic. Climate change is deceptively slow change and that's why I feel many people don't feel its effects as much because of its slow process, but it should continue to support the Paris agreement and try to fulfill its goals.
ReplyDeleteClimate change should definitely be something that is addressed as a higher priority because it's something that defines the very earth that we live on; if the US can reduce its carbon footprint, it will already make a big step forward in bettering the environment, and it would contribute to a better lifestyle for more individuals.
ReplyDeleteAmerica does need to make climate control a top priority in the next coming years because for so long we have not really done much for the environment, and we need to start making big advances now otherwise they will never happen. I think the United States should be a leading role in this global crisis because if the United States and other big nations do not set examples for the little countries then the little countries will never do anything for the environment. I believe that Hillary Clinton will do more things involving the environmental issues in the United States and around the world, solely because Donald Trump believes that global warming is a scam.
ReplyDeleteClimate change is definitely a problem the US should address. Measures that could be taken to address global warming is making environmental friendly products more accessible for the people to use and educating people on why global warming is a serious issue.
ReplyDeleteAlthough climate change is a serious issue that needs to be discussed about, I feel people lack motivation to make a change because it is not something that is currently affecting people. The nations that have the money to make changes in their every day lives that will benefit the environment should do so and also conduct research; this way eventually the world will know what works and what doesn't.
ReplyDeleteClimate Change should be a serious issue. Since everyone is always worried about the world they should mostly talk about how to help the environment than talking about something not relevant on helping anyone. It would be hard to say who to trust since both candidates can say they can change the climate but will they really keep the promises. They should change the everyday objects that are used a lot to more resourceful energy.
ReplyDeleteI feel that climate change is a huge and serious issue and I would go with Clinton because I believe she is more trustworthy than Donald Trump right now and the role the US should have is a big role because we have the most money out of any country I believe
ReplyDeleteWe need to prioritize climate change to the point where it would not have devastating effects on the planet in the near future. Admittedly, it is easy to forget about this issue because it's not visually seen or makes a large impact on us. However, we do need to have a focus on it to prevent the deforestation and the rising climate that destroys numerous habitats and raises sea level.
ReplyDeleteOur efforts to combat climate change should be a top priority because our planet is deteriorating, and if we do not take action right away, there will be nothing left to save in a few decades. I would trust anybody who shows passion towards combatting climate change and shows promise to take action. The role of the US is to be a role model and demonstrate how a country should take a stance on climate change prevention.
