During a speech to local business executives Mr.Duterte had mentioned that he was disappointed with the criticism from the US due to the Philippines' tactics to combat the drug trader. Dueterte then continued on saying that he felt that instead of helping, the State Department was the first to criticize. Later on Tuesday he warned that he may break apart from the US and unite with Russia or China. Russia and China had already assured him that they would give him what he needed. The Philipine which used to be a colony of the US has a long relationship with Washington but Mr.Duterte made it very clear last week that while Obama is in office these would be the last join military exercises.
Do you think Mr.Duterte was right for telling Obama to go to hell ?
How you do think President Obama reacted to this ?
Of course, Duterte telling Obama that wasn't right at all. Duterte seems to be taking these criticisms too hard and making them more personal, so it definitely wasn't appropriate for him to say those kinds of things. If anything, I agree with Obama and his criticism on how Duterte is dealing with the drug trade in the Philippines. Duterte is a very brutal and harsh man, especially in the way he's dealing with the problem through killings.
ReplyDeleteI think telling Obama to go to hell was a little extreme. The US's way of dealing with things such as drugs is different than another country. We will have different opinions, but threatening to leave a long time bond with the US might be a mistake. Obama should let him do whatever he wants.
ReplyDeleteI think telling Obama to go to hell was a little disrespectful and uncalled for. Every country has different ways of dealing with different situations. I think he was very appalled I would think so.
ReplyDeleteThis act is a very extreme way of phrasing, but the other statements he made are reasonable such as not considering joint military actions
ReplyDeleteI think that he could have expressed his feelings in a better way. I think that this was disrespectful and that it is only making their connection weaker.I think that overall Duarte is dealing with the drug trade in a harsh way and the criticism makes sense
ReplyDeleteThere are other ways to express his opinion in a more respectful way. I think Obama is a little angry but knows he will always be criticized and doesn't really care. He has been called worse by others before.
ReplyDeleteMr. Duterte should not have said that publicly, for it can strain relationships between the two leaders. President Obama hopefully acted humbly and did not show any form of ill-will towards Mr. Duterte.
ReplyDeleteMr. Détente Should have not said to Obama that he should go to hell because it was totally uncalled for. I believe that Obama just let it pass and that he just handled it in a respectable way.
ReplyDeleteI think that Duterte acted very irrationally in his message to president Obama, and it was uncalled for. If he disagreed with something that he said or his actions, then he could have phrased it in a more professional manner. As president of the Philippines himself, he should know better than this. Obama has every right to voice his opinion publicly, Duterte just did not deal with the criticism the right way.
ReplyDeleteDuterte is an angry man and is fed up with the US. He's not getting what he wants so obviously he's going to be mad and say to obama go to hell.
ReplyDeleteI think that Duterte was caught up in the moment but has no right to tell Obama to go to hell. I think Obama handled this problem in a more respectful way and did not care much.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Duterte saying that Obama should go to hell is uncalled for and very disrespectful. This was done very rashly, and as a political leader, he should be able to be more diplomatic rather than address another President that way. President Obama handled the issue in a very respectful way although there were more calmer ways for Duterte to address the criticism.
ReplyDeleteI believe that what he said was very disrespectful and uncalled for because although he was very unhappy at that moment due to the whole situation, he had no right to say that in public.
ReplyDeleteI do not think he was right for telling obama to go to hell. It is extremely unprofessional and outrageous. In addition, I think obama would have been offended by it.
ReplyDeleteI believe for Mr. Duterte to say something like that is very immature and disrespectful. It is very immature for Duterte because he is the current president, he should be setting a positive look for himself. I think Obama handled this problem maturely and looks like he didn't even care much.
ReplyDeleteIn a workplace setting, the words that Mr. Duterte chose to speak were inappropriate and uncalled for; he could have expressed his anger in other ways.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I can understand that he is mad, he still had no right to say that to the President. He should've been professional and not criticize Obama. President Obama might've been offended, but he shouldn't be because he knows what he's doing and understands the Duterte is making it more personal than he should.
ReplyDeleteI understand he is angry at the president but as a politician he should have been much more professional about what he said. I think the president reacted in shock because it is very unlikely.

ReplyDeleteI think Mr. Duterte is going to do what he thinks is best for his country. I also think that Obama was probably really mad because Mr. Duterte wasn't professional about it.
ReplyDeleteI think Mr. Duterte is going to do what he thinks is best for his country. I also think that Obama was probably really mad because Mr. Duterte wasn't professional about it.
ReplyDeleteThe words that Mr. Duterte has spoken was inappropriate and could've explained his feelings in other ways towards Obama because now he looked like he was unprofessional about it
ReplyDeleteAlthough it is up to Duarte to decide what is best for handling the drug trade in the Philippines, his remarks were irrational and uncalled for. There are respectful ways of taking and responding to criticism -especially as a political leader.
